Car and Driver - Mazda3 Comparison

Hey,
Anyone read the latest Car & Driver magazine? There's a comparison bit between the Mazda3, VW Golf. Civic, Corolla, Elantra and Sentra. Those bozos voted the '3' second after the VW even though the 3 is the clear winner in performance and design. They scored the VW high in the nebulous category of 'Fun to Drive'. That's it for my C&D subscription.

I was also a bit annoyed (but not surprised) by that decision. Every other enthusiast magazine review I've read of the VW I-5 is that it's a lump, and not particularly fun to drive (nor is the Golf). I think had this comparison been in most other enthusiast magazines (and it has, really), the Mazda3 would have won. C&D has annoyed me for the past decade or so with their semi-Consumer Reports attitudes in their reviews. They place too much emphasis on how fancy and comfy the interior is, etc., when compared to how fun the car is to drive. Clearly, C&D is trying to cater to a wider audience, but that's not what I read all of these car magazines for. However, even C&D made note that the 3 was the extrovert, fun car of the group. Sometimes you have to read a bit between the lines to figure out what car in the comparison is the fun one of the bunch.

those comparisons are always bulls*** anyway. let me guess, they had a mazda 3i and a golf gti? they always seem to have base models of some cars against top models of other cars.

last year they voted the 6 #2 behind the accord. they said the 6 was 'underpowered.' well they had a 4 cyl 6i vs an accord EX V6. i dont remember if it was C&D though.

i would agree most reivews i have heard about the new vdubs say that they are a bit of a lump and aren't the most engaging car to drive..
