80 degree list...? That's pretty much waaay past the point of no return unless that ship is some great exception to the rule. Can anyone say "Underwater Car Dealership"?
For most ships that is pretty much right, but for navy ships, ie frigates, destroyers and so forth, they can be beyond 90 degrees and still right themselves, unless they have a lot of water where they shouldn't. That is very unfortunate for all those mazdas and the people who were supposed to be buying them. I have heard that they chain them down using the towing hooks either end of the car, but not 100% sure. Maybe there are a few that are still attached to the deck.

Drown!!!!! Mazda 3 Drown!!!! MWAHAHAHAHA...... j/k... you guys better carfax any mazdas you buy in the near future.

It wont be a total loss. They are in an air tight space so they could salvage most of the part and whatnot, well, interior wise. Man I hope some MS3's were in there so I can buy the front seats off ebay or something for mad cheap(evil)

The Mazdaspeed 3 was supposed to get here for Sept. If they are on schedule, and knowing mazda's history I doubt that very much, it is very VERY likely there are some speeds on that boat. Lets not forget that the 2007 Mazdaspeed 6 is also supposed to be here for Aug/sept. which is why we are seeing heavy discounts on the '06's now.

My Command just told me that all the cars are strapped down tight and that they, for the most part, have not been damaged. So they might still be in good condition, just delayed. Like I said before, my office is going to be doing the investigation on the mishap. They are going to be towing the ship to a port here in Alaska to do the inspection as well as try and fix the Vessel. I will provide more info as it comes to me.

Here are some good pics.................

This is AMAZING news.

Ugh, not so amazing news. I know squat about how to handle this situation, but why wouldn't they intervene ASAP so disaster can be prevented?! Is there something in particular they're holding off for?

And that first pic you posted (with the Coast Guard) looks so fake. Not because I actually think it's fake, but because it just looks so unnatural. A ship of such size and magnitude just floating the way it is. Oh, and that Coast Guard ship looks badass!

it said in the article the salvage crew wil be there in a week. i guess it must take a while to prepare or something. i mean thats one big mofo, i dont think u can just strap a winch to ur tugboat and turn it right.

yeah, this is true... haha. I would not wanna be project manager on this endeavour.

Ya it's not like you can just push it over or anything, lol. It takes alot of planning and coordination to pull off a salvage of this size! One tiny little mistake and it's gone, along with $117 million in cars!! There is alot at stake here. Sounds like there are most likely a load of MS3s on there. These guys are experts for a reason, so let's so what kind of stuff they can pull off.

And I was just about to say we should have a forum excursion to the ship to have a candlelight vigil.. like send MyZmZm on a dogsled with her eskimo friends LOL :D

I really, really hope the cars can get out unscathed. Even if Mazda did have insurance, if those were like the whole year's shipment of MS3s or something (I've read it's 60% mazda3, 30% CX-7) it would be a huge setback for Mazda.

I wish there was a way I could send Mazda of Japan a card expressing my condolences.

From my analysis of that picture, I conclude that the racist cowboy George W. Bush ordered his Coast Guard thugs to shoot that boat full of Japanese cars. George Bush doesn't care about Mazdas! [/kanye west]

^^^

I actually LOLed about that one.. but you have a point. I highly doubt he cares about Mazdas, much less ones destined primarily for Canadian sales.
