Can only buy one - Wii or Xbox 360. Which?

Hey guys, I know everyone shopping for a console has to go through this debate but I figured I'd post it up here and see your opinions!

So here's the deal, my younger bro and I have recently come into some money and are wanting to split the cost of a new console. We are either going to go Wii or 360.

Pros of the wii are that its fun and innovative to play, i had one in my house for a few months and liked it a lot but it was almost 6 months ago and there werent as many games for it then. It has built in wireless and online play is free which is a big plus. As well, it has an internet browser, news, weather, etc. - just kind of nice novelty features. Cons are obviously that the graphics arent as good and there arent as many good games (yet, of course).

Now, the 360 needs the Wi-Fi adapter along with having to pay for online play. However, it has better graphics and a larger selection of games. A few of my buddies have the 360 so I've played it quite a bit. I like it a lot, just I like the Wii too and I think its control style has a lot of potential once developers start making quality first person shooters for it.

Another nice thing is the Wii's lower price - I wouldnt ebay it, I'd wait to find one in a store and just pay the 250 for it as opposed to the Xbox's 350 (premium) For Wii I would definitely buy: Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Corruption at first and for Xbox, I'd get like Halo 3 and maybe Forza 2 or COD 4 or something.

What do you guys think? Anybody have both?

360 hands down. No other system comes close for games. throw in Xbox Live, and it's no contest.

Unfortunately, no other system comes close to being as un-reliable either.

Tip, try to get one of the newer 360's, with the new motherboards for better reliability. Look for HMDI on the box, that'll give you a better chance of getting a falcon motherboard.

don't worry about wifi. No real gamer should be using wifi for gaming anyways, run a wire.

FYI, starting December, you can download all Xbox1 games straight onto the Xbox 360's Hard drive. So, if this is something you'll be doing, you might want the bigger HD.

360 for sure...wii does not have to many games, and the games they have are mostly kids games

Built-in wifi is cool, but shouldn't be anywhere near the top of the list of why you end up buying one console or another. Sure, it's a pain in the ass to run a ethernet cable but... once it's done, it's done.

As far as the free online... It's the same argument PS owners use. Problem is, you get what you pay for. I think XBL is like $50/year. Sure, that's not peanuts but... well... it's $4.16/month! lol Have one less happy meal at Mickey D's (your heart will thank you) and call it even. The online experience MS offers is far superior to anything you can hope for (for now) from both the PS3 and Wii.

As far as the internet browser, news, weather BS goes... come on! It's a freakin game console! If you want the news or weather... turn on the TV or go log into your computer. The PS3 has a browser too... I'm guessing a lot of PS3 owners have put it to use since there's such a dearth of quality games to play on it.

Obviously you know where I'm going. Right now, the 360 is king. MS smartened up big time this time around. Round 1 went to the PS2.. mainly because it was first to the market. (having a built-in fanbase doesn't hurt either.)

The world has changed dramatically since... back then, online play was the exception to the rule. Now it IS the rule. MS capitalized on this by creating the best online experience around while the others are playing catch-up.

But this isn't a 360 vs PS3 debate... so I digress.

The Wii IS a remarkable machine. While the 2 aforementioned consoles have their fair share of exclusives, the Wii's exclusive titles, due to their unique quality, are even more so. If you're into the types of games Nintendo creates (which are sort of the equivalent of G-rated Disney flicks) then the Wii's your console. If you've been sneaking into R rated movies years before you were of age and like to become immersed in games both as realistic (and unrealistic) as they get.. the 360 is the clearcut winner.

Or you can just get both! Really, the 360/Wii combo is the best. 360's your Triumph Daytona 955... Wii's your party bus.

Buy 3 wiis, sell them on ebay, then you should have enough to get both lol

I'm not kidding either, I made over $250 ebaying 3 wiis last tuesday.

Depends what you like to play -- if you like pretty much all FPS games, then go with the XBox since that's mainly what it offers. If you like shallow kids games, get the Wii.

Good point. A non-awesome TV (non HD) paired up with a 360 is like... a hot chick on that 'special' time of the month. sort of a waste!

Then again... if you've got an SD TV... there's no better time to upgrade. Good quality HDTVs can be had dirt cheap these days... and with all the HD programming available, are worth every penny.

Another bout of ignorance.

don't get me wrong I'd probably get a 360 also, but calling the wii games kiddy to feel better about playing what are essentially all kids games is just silly.

I've had FAR more fun with my "kiddy" gamecube than my "hardcore" PS2 over the course of owning them both. Both excellent systems and both have different styles of games but just because a game doesn't contain gore, guns or boobies or swearing doesn't make it kiddy. good grief!

buy the wii and get twilight princess and then buy this

I take offense to that - stating one's opinion is never ignorant, it is simply an opinion. Just because it doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't mean it's ignorant. Besides, I didn't call it "kiddy", I called it shallow. And I stand by that statement. I do know you don't own a Wii so I have to ask if you've even played one. I have and played about 15 of the games it currently has out and NONE of them were that impressive IMO....basically they were "shallow" I'd say. This included Paper Mario, which IMO should have been a "can't miss" quality title. I'm not saying the Wii doesn't have anything to offer, I'm just saying it has less to offer unless the poster is primarily interested in the big franchise games like Mario and Zelda.

I don't own a Wii, but I have several friends that do as well as friend who own 360's and PS3's. And I stand by my statement that your opinion and the way you expressed it shows ignorance. Many seem eager to pin the Wii as a "kiddy" system because 90% of its games are not : "blast em up 7: The shootout". I've played several Wii titles most recently Mario Galaxies & Metroid prime corruption yesterday and I was most impressed. I can see the potential in the system. I've also played Gears on war on my buddies AMAZING projection setup as well as the odd PS3 game. They were amazing as well.

The Wii does have the weakest (but most broadly appealing) line-up and would not be my first choice to purchase (perhaps second behind the 360 but before the PS3) but I in no way consider it kiddy, just different. Thats my opinion. I'm sorry it offended you but you are entitled to your opinion and I mine.

off topic but the people who claim 9/11 was an inside job disproves that statment. That IMHO is an ignorant opinion. Yours on the Wii is no where near that level to to label a system kiddy because its games are not the norm seems kinda silly to me. But once again, its just silly videogames anyways so I guess I shouldn't really care. Personally, I'm more into call of duty: modern warfare on my PC than anything on the consoles right now.

Seems you can hear the crickets after I post in a thread... so I think I will go ahead and make this one silent too...

We own a Wii and have our good friends and neighbors who own a PS3. I like both but I prefer an interactive game that I can play. So I chose the Wii as the first one for us to get... plus the price difference helped make up my mind. Over $100 price difference to this day makes it very easy for me. I love to play video games but can not fathom spending $400 to $600 dollars to get one remote, no game and still have to buy a wireless kit. Pardon me while I cough up a grand to have a good time playing a "video game".

Games like Metroid and Mortal Kombat are not kiddy games, with their graphic nature. No they don't have a lot of the games like SOCOM and such.... yet, but give it time I think the platform is much better and more active. Plus you can play all of your gamecube games on the wii. If your an old nintendo fan you can download straight to your Wii some of the old nintendo and atari games for pretty cheap.

If you are a sports gamer, don't get a wii.

There aren't a lot of terribly good sports games for the wii. The 360 has better and more refined titles.

Madden 360 > Madden wii.

X2 thats what the wii looks like to me. It looks like it might be fun for 15 minutes and then you'll want your 360 controller back to play some Forza....
i used the wii for 1 month.. we've been using the xbox for like 4 months so far..

the wii's fun wears off
