I just bought some 05 Mazda3 5 spoke rims that have 17x6.5 dimensions got a great deal, all 4 w (crap) tires for a total of $150 !
Now i want to buy some tires, and thought of maybe stretching them if possible..so i opened this thread, in hope of finding out if its possible.

I realize thats REALLY skinny to stretch.. so if i were to (and if possible) what tires would i need?

I was thinking of getting 225/41/17 but if i want to stretch it .. what size would i need?

TIA..

I don't think you can go any wider than 225/40 or 45 on a 6.5" wheel. I had a subaru legacy gt with factory 17X7's and no one could run wider than a 235 on them.

Thats what i figured as well. Anyways i would rather go with something thinner than 225/40/17, i want minor stretch. im going to lower it on Staggs/Teins. So far 1 other member (ihone) has done the exact same, and i pmd him about what size tires hes got but have not got a reply yet

Go 205's...you will get slop with the 225's...

I would like some pics of how that looks tho, cant seem to find anyone w a stretch on a rim that skinny....

and you think that 205-40 would provide some decent stretch or would i have to go thinner like 195 or 175?

basically what i want is the lip of the rim to stick out and have the sidewall curve in slightly.

Thanks guys

I just put 205/50r17 on a 17x8. I'll upload pics when photobucket chooses to cooperate, but the stretch is minor. Point is a 205/40 will fit normally, won't look strectched won't look stretched. 8" has the curve your looking for but not the lip protruding (or at least with nitto neo gens.)
The issue with fitting a 175 or 185 tire is finding one in a 17" rim. Lowest I've seen in 17" was 195. Then just find a shop willing to install it, as not many shops do stretch anymore. Also realize your speed and load rating decrease with tires that size.
Personal opinion: thinnest tire you can get (try for 185) lower it to the ground, powdercoat those a little more grey, aim for pic 3
fitment.

To add some credibility, I work in a tire shop, full time.

pics work. Thankks man

Well since i coldnt find any tires i wanted for the stretch.. im goin w 205/40/17 's .

I ALMOST bought em today, BUT i called 1 more time b4 i left to double check they had em..& THE DIDNT HAVE 40's ! just 50's! Im like' REALLY?!" .. F@$%ING idiots... They said they did (i called 2wice before.. (chair) )

SO NO STRETCH FOR ME :( JUST HAVE TO FIND SOME 205 40 17's ... :/

i got a deal! all four for 60$. y not! The guy just bought new tires and too lazy to sell em, so i gave him some $ for em..

and the ride is soo nice and quiet

Nice! I like those better than RX8 wheels, is it lowered already? (sheesh you don't waste any time) by how much?

I was just gonna say those look like smaller versions of the rx-8 wheels or like the 17s that come on Mazda 5s. Looks good.

Thanks.

And its lowered on tein s techs (guess no 1 bothers to read signitures.lol)

Its about a 1.6 drop around

You mean 1.8f/1.5r as taken from Tein's site. ;)

I am a fan of those wheels and like others have said they are very similiar to the RX8's. Also, I have to say that I was happy to read you didn't try and stretch a 185 on them.

Yeah thanks..I dnt feel like opening my links below (I'm on my phone..) lol and 1.6 is the avg lol

Anyways thanks I like the look also. I've seen em on silver and yellow pro5's but I like it more on myne..since the contrast is greater (imo)

And realistically I wasn't going to stretch em.. hard to find tires.and a shop to do it . And too much pain in te ass w curbs. Its cuz I was a former vdub member (mk3 jetta glx-vr6) . And close friends are vdub owners..so that might have rubbed off on me lol :)

Wheel related question/ controversy:

I tried comparing stock 195/50/16 wheels w 205/45/17's to figure out what my speed reads now. And both sites have different final answers! : Which is correct?! :
