Can I break the cats apart and stick'em back in?

If you guys check out Corky Bell's Protege Turbo page...he says that the primary cat actually can flow pretty well...so you might want to think before having at it with the screwdriver.

So thats what a CAT is......I've been wondering a long time...THanks guys....
But I always see threads talking about CAT-BACK.....what is the BACK ??

A cat back exhaust system is one that starts after the cat and goes all the way to the back. (the full back section). Some exhaust kits are just the end. I.E. (the muffler and tip)

The cat-back includes all, and is better because it replaces more of your smaller tubing.

O2 sensor mod

I have took both cats out and did the O2 mod and the CEL went out so I know it works.

If you guys want to know an interesting bit of trivia, it's that cars pollute more in the first mile than the next fifty (on one drive, that is). For ULEV's (like the p5), it's more (in some cases) in the first than in the next 500. I'm not sure what the p5 is at, probably 1/100.

A simple solution to this is being used by Saab, although I'm not sure if they're using it in the U.S. yet. A bag or cylinder located under the trunkspace traps the first "mile" of emissions, and can even be pressurized (the emissions can be "pushed" into a smaller space). Once the cat is hot, the computer releases the exhaust gases pre-cat back into the exhaust system, allowing them to be processed like the rest of the gases through the catalytic converter. It reduces emissions to next to nothing. Similar designs are being considered in Cali (for all you west coasters), but may be nixed by the proliferation of hybrids, which can heat up cats electrically shortly after starting, precluding the need for a storage chamber. Either way, a solution is out there.

just thought that was a cool fact.

i posted a thread about gutting the cat and didnt get this many responces, anyway, i did it and i didnt get a check engine light but it did get a good sound . i must have just did the 2nd one i didnt even notice another cat under there.
