Calling Down Pipe Owners!!

i get fuel cut in my msp durring cold weather but it usually has to be bellow 30 something degrees.(3"virbant sri/ic/afc/pipes)

MS CAI and Cork DP, Vibrant exhaust with one high flow cat will fuel cut at higher temps. Mine cuts around 45 if I hold it balls to the wall. The MS intake makes a leaner run condition than the other intakes.

So with a MS CAI and a TBE I will reach fuel cut? Even though I am running stock boost pressures?

Another question: Compared to the Cork Sport DP with stock 2nd Cat vs. CP-E DP with high flow Cat, which will produce more power? Which one will be easier to live with...CELs, sound, etc...

Thanks again!!

You will get more power and no CEL's with the catted CPe DP.
The CS DP is awsome but if you are still keeping the 2nd cat (why, "O" sensor reads 1st cat?) it's just another bottleneck further down.
CPe, as stated earlyier, is a full length DP, which rids of the 2nd cat.

If you have no emission testing where you are and want the most power, reguardless of sound, get either the non catted CPe DP or the CS DP + test pipe. If you will ever need to pass a sniffer test, get the CPe catted DP.

I cannot speak about fuel cut, see Laloosh or dadas posts on that.

We don't have emission here in Florida where I'm at...
But I've had a Cat-less Miata and the fumes weren't all that great...if having a high flow Cat is only going to cost me 2-3 HP, then its worth it for me...

Anyone know what the HP/TQ difference is between a Catted DP and non-Catted DP...? (I'll send CP-E and email asking this same question just in case)

Would running the CS DP with the 2nd Cat really bottle neck the exhaust...? If we are talking about 2-3 HP, then thats insignificant... 20-25, then thats a different story... LOL

Just got a reply from CP-E:
We have no been able to test the Catted versus Non-Catted downpipe directly but we estimate there to be a 3-4 horsepower loss with the catalytic converter. The cats these days are so good and flow so well that they do not cause much horsepower loss. My biggest advice to you would be to go with a CAT, if you choose non catted it tends to stink up the car. We have had a couple of people come back to us and ask us to add a cat becuase after 4-5 months their brand new car started to smell like unburnt fuel. On the other hand the non-catted is less expensive and gives you a little more power so you'll have to ask yourself if you can deal with the smell or horsepower loss.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.

Its a shame that the catted version of CP-E's DP is $737.00!!! I would have bought this now...but $737 for a DP is too rich for my blood.

I guess I'll be going Cork Sport with factory 2nd cat...until someone offers a high flow 2nd cat...

(iagree)

As well, the cost of most exhaust systems is just outrageous. A 3" straight pipe with muffler on the end is less than $200 around here and offers just as good gains as the name brand CBEs. (I had one of these [less the muffler] on the car in my sig when I used to autox back in the late 90s. No other DSMs could keep up...)

Heve you ever thought of just going with a test pipe (keeping 1st cat and no cels!) and a CBE? Thats the route I did and it gave me mad gains!!!

Replacing the exhaust on our MS3 is worthless other than for sound... No real power is gain from an exhaust (at least thats what the experts are saying)... Everything I've been reading points out to the downpipe and cats as being the only restriction...

i could believe that. cut out the stock cats..add high flow cats done deal..maybe delete one cat

Thats what I'll be doing... Though I really like CP-E's design with a metallic high flow cat in one pipe; DP...

I think I will try the CS DP by itself and see what it does... Though, I wish I could be sure someone will make a high flow cat to replace the factory one. Maybe I should wait until someone makes a CP-E type of catted DP...??

i have the corksport and i like it noticable gains and not a lot of added noise and the divorsed set up is kind of cool looking and is an efficent set up. i just have DP 2nd cat is still installed and stock cat back.

Corksport does not use any cats and you must do a mod to the o sensor in order to not throw a cell.

I spoke to them and they say that it won't need an o2 sim or anything. They have the o2 sensor moved a little more out of the exhaust stream and it won't throw a code.

Any CEL yet? Is this the DP without the cat?
