Cabin and engine air filters

Can anyone confirm that the ATP FA-14 fits the 2011 CX-9? It says that the ATP FA-14 does not fit. Has anyone else used this? I was thinking of either this or the TYC 800111P.

How about for the engine air filter? Do most people use the OEM or get an aftermarket? I was going to order from Rock Auto.

Yes it does, according to Amazon. I got one off of Rock Auto for like 10 bucks for mine. It's like my A/C filters in my house.... the way I see it, the more over-designed the filter is, with more stuff inside it, the more strain it will put on the blower motor so I just get el-cheapo.

For the engine air filter, the oem is a Ford Motorcraft el-cheapo paper filled junk. I got a K&N "lifetime" drop-in filter that only has to be cleaned every 30k miles or so.

One of the biggest debates on the internet is the use of K&N filters. I have my opinions, other people have theirs. That's fine with me.

I wouldn't trust anything FRAM as far as I could throw it. But as far as aftermarket paper filters, I don't think there's much difference between them and the oem one.

So the ATP fits and works well? Does the charcoal help at all? So any engine air filter from Rock Auto should be fine? Do you know the Motorcraft filter #?

helbigtw,
Rock Auto and Amazon say the ATP FA-14 does not fit the 2011 CX-9. They both list the correct model as the ATP RA-128.

My mistake. I put in 2008 on Amazon. Not sure if Mazda changed the air exchanger since 08??

Either way, its just an air filter, not a big deal. Any one of the 25 that Rock Auto sells would be fine. You're just keeping junk from getting into the fan housing. As far as a carbon filter.... ever put your window down, or sunroof open? whats the point of a carbon filter just for filtering air?

How do I know if my CX9 has a cabin air filter? Is this different than the usual air filter under the hood?

Yes, it is different. It filters the air entering the cabin/blower/AC. It is behind the glove box. Your owner's manual should have the info. I think all CX-9's have it. Usually have to drop the glove box door down, push a tap and the gate for the filter box opens. The filter is behind it. The cabin air filters are directional, so pay attention to the arrows.

Some do. Our walmart has it, so does the local pepboys. The problem is I could not find the models I needed from them. I usually buy them online from amazon or rockauto and try to bundle it with a bunch of other stuff I need to save on shipping if possible.

TYC 800111P Ford/Mazda Replacement Cabin Air Filter from Amazon works in mine. We just did a road trip from CA to TX. Mine had 20k on it when I replaced the old one over the weekend, it was black and dirty. I believe the A/C was working more efficiently now.
