Bye Bye TomTom!

:
CX-5 Grand Touring
I replaced the stereo/GPS with a Kenwood DNN990HD. Huge upgrade! Look it up at kenwoodusa.com. And yes, the stock back-up camera still works!

Details?

What did you use to adapt the camera? What did you use to adapt the steering wheel controls? Do all the steering wheel controls (volume, seek, phone, voice) still function? Does it work with the bose stuff?

Thanks
Gary

I'd also like to know how you got the stock backup camera to work. I finally gave up and ordered a nice aftermarket one today.

As for steering wheel controls, you just use a PAC RP4-MZ11, which keeps all the steering wheel controls except for voice, and maybe phone which I don't use.

I just looked up the price...hot damn!! $1399.99?? Wow, that's more than 3 times what I paid for my Kenwood. Obviously this one had some very upscale features though, I'm guessing.

Car Toys did the installation. I don't know how they got the back-up camera to work, but they can do anything.

The volume and station changer steering wheel controls work. I have to use the head unit for the phone. There's a small button near the gear shift to activate the voice commands.

The Bose speakers sound great! I never heard them with the stock unit. Everything came through the center speaker only.

I don't have an iPod. It has Bluetooth and two USB connectors in the glove box. Haven't tried it yet.

Yes, $1,400. But I spent more than that on the Pioneer I put in my old car 7 years ago, and I couldn't surf the web on it!

Pictures to follow, but the install looks great. The original bezel is still in.

Based on my experiments, they must have soldered resistors into the factory wiring, because you need to convert the vehicle's 12 volts down to 6v for the camera power supply. That was a little further than I wanted to go with modifying the original wiring in case I ever want/need to revert back to stock. That is awesome that they got it working for you though. That is a great stereo you got, congrats!

For everyone asking about the iPod, it definitely works as is should with aftermarket stereos. I added a Kenwood DDX-370 and the iPod works perfectly. And yes, the Bose speakers sound amazing with the upgraded head unit! I also added in a back up camera for less than $100 additional. The DDX-370 does not have bluetooth, but I didn't care because I never use that feature. If you are in the market for an aftermarket head unit, just shop around for one that has the features you want.
