Buying some gauges, good choices?

I'm well over due for some gauges, particularly a boost gauge so I've stashed some cash away and it's time to pony up and get these suckers. So here is what I'm thinking, and I'm wondering what input you guys might have, and I have a few questions about them as well.

Boost gauge - very much needed of course, and from my understanding running off the intake mani vacuum hose will do the trick?

AEM WB o2 - Although a bit pricey I think this will pay off in the future, particularly for tuning. My question about this is if any welding is required to add a bung for the sensor

Engine temp guage - a good thing too know, easy to install, maybe I should go withsomething else?

Let me know what you guys think

I would go with the boost, the wb 02 and fuel pressure and oil pressure.. got question i will give you all the advice i can give you. i work as a tech at a speed shop in CT

you can get the AEM combo for like 400 bucks. its a boost gauge/controller and the AEM Uego* wideband o2. as for a third gauge why dont get an oil pressure gauge liek azblurz said before.

The Defi Guages are really nice, but i traded mine out for the AEM boost & Wideband gauges....Good stuff. You can click my link to see pics.....and the Combo deal from PG is $500.

Here---> AEM Boost & Wideband

Boost gauge, definitely. Yes. I advise to keep away from the Autometer C2 model. I had one for a couple months, and completely hated it. Not to mention the damn thing didn't work right. But the Autometer brand overall is quite good. I have one of their boost gauges in carbon fiber, and it functions perfectly. Never a single problem. You can tap into the vacuum through the brake booster line near the firewall. You also might want to think about just getting a vacuum line manifold -- it keeps things looking nice and clean if you plan on tapping into stuff for more than your boost gauge.

And, what d'you know, I have the AEM wideband as well. GREAT gauge. I made the mistake of originally purchasing an Innovate wideband -- DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT BUY ONE!! But, anyway -- no welding or cutting or anything of the sort is needed for the extra sensor. The MSP came with an extra bung, and the AEM plugs right on into it.

The third gauge is really a personal choice. I only have the two mentioned above, and I've been doing just fine. :)

Good luck!

if u can stand it, go with an EGT/pyrometer as the thrid. will help with tuning timing. if not, oil pressure. fuel pressure... probably not. but if u do want a fuel pressure for some reason, get 1/4 inch barbs, the tubing is 5/16 but its a double. if u want oil pressure, go ahead and get one of these: http://www.nissport.com/catalog/product.asp?ProductCode=NS-2100U&EquipmentType=Applications or something similar to go from 1/8 BSPT to 1/8 NPT. but my suggestion for #3 is EGT/pyrometer.

I find an EGT to be one of the most useless gauges personally. I would MUCH rather know the temperature of my coolant and the pressure of my oil than the temperature of my exhuast. Yes it can be usefull if you are running rediculously rich/lean, but I don't think it should be used for tuning. It is more of a precautionary gauge. My personal must have list is (in order of importance):

WBO2
Boost
Coolant temp
Oil Pressure

This is for a car with moderate or more mods, not for a stock car. Mild mods I would say Boost and WBO2. These two are the most important (imo) in making sure you don't blow your engine.

My guages include, WBO2, Boost, and EGT...personally, pop the hood when you fill up, check oil level, check coolant overflow, drive away. EGT altough not highly used, blah for tuning, will allow you to determine if you are running lean or rich. In my opinion, lean=blammmmmmo, rich=lesss ummmf, but alas the other considerations of coolant temp and oil pressure are top notch!!

So basically you are saying that if you have a WBO2, an EGT is pointless :-P
