Hello again!

Looking for an upgrade unit for my stock radio and found this http://grandvalley.en.alibaba.com/product/1015225068-218171585/Car_DVD_Player_for_Old_Mazda_5_with_GPS_radio1_2G_Dual_Core_CPU_3G_wifi_Support_DVR_HD_Screen_audio_video_player.html?edm_src=sys&edm_type=fdbk&edm_grp=0&edm_cta=read_msg&edm_time=realtime&edm_ver=e. Has anyone ordered something from them? They don't use PayPal som I'm a little cautious about making a bank transfer.

The unit seems nice and I got a reasonable price when contacting them. Anyone installed this unit (or similar) in their MZ5?

Thanks for your advices!

That looks like the same unit you can get on eBay or other retailers.

I buy some items form Alibaba for work related stuff. Vendors can be hit and miss. Seems there may only be one manufacturer for this item but is resold through a lot of different people. Found the same unit on eBay.se. I would probably trust that route a lot more.

The unit I found uses Android OS which I want in my HU. Other units mostly uses Win CE and sometimes combined with some kind of Android OS on top of that. Also, the price I got was very nice. I will pay $472 for the unit and that includes shipping to Sweden and a canbus module that is needed for the steering wheel controls to work. though I'm not convinced yet. I can get another unit (http://www.hifimax.net/proinfo.asp?ArticleID=1000), though not specificaly integrated/designed for Mazda 5, for not more than 351 USD, including shipping. It's not from ebay but I got recomended this company from another person who had bought his unit from them with no problem what so ever. It doesn't include the fascia and canbus module but I can get that from a ebay seller in UK for about $159 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/400520723962?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649) including shipping to Sweden. Totally $510. I think that is a good deal.

Alibaba? As in Ali Baba and the Forty thieves? Run, screaming, in the other direction. LOL

LOL, made my day! :-)

Keep us updated on your progress, sounds like you are on the right track. I'm waiting to see how your quest for steering wheel controls ends up. I will keep you updated as my system comes together. I got one of the programmable units available here in the states, waiting for it to show up....

I will keep you updated and I'm looking forward to see your system installation. I still haven't decided which unit I will buy yet. For the moment it looks like I'm going to order the one from Hifimax and a dash installation kit from scosche.

*Edit* I just placed an order of the unit form Hifimax. Going to install it with the following kit and canbus module: http://www.ebay.com/itm/270928260160?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649. Won't be using the ISO cable in the kit. It comes another with this canbus module (wired and ready for Mazda 5): http://www.ebay.com/itm/271074419977?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649. They will send a patch cable for the module to connect to the stereo.

Your SWC sounds a lot more simple than mine which showed up today. It is the PAC (Pacific Accesory Corp.) model SWI-PS version 1.6.8 The installation and programming instructions have officially scared the crap out of me. I'm going to install the whole shootin match this weekend, we'll just see how that goes

Good luck! I'll have to wait and see how easy mine will be to install and program...

My head unit arrived with DHL today. I haven't unboxed it yet. I'll probably create a new thread about the install of everything. The installation kit and swc module didn't arrive yet. I also ordered a reverse camera (http://www.ebay.com/itm/280699746738?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649) and a wireless transmitter (http://www.ebay.com/itm/390557074388?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649)
. I'll see if I can manage to install it together with all other stuff. I will test the wireless kit with the unit before I install it. If it is worthless then I'll go cable. I'm a little concerned about the camera that it will cover the license plate light. If it does perhaps I'll see if I can mount it some other way.

Will keep you updated!

I had some issues with one of the sd card slots that didn't work so I had to return my unit. I'm still waiting for a new one. Hopefully I will get it soon.

Found one on sale!

That's a good price. The only gripe I have with mine is with the factory radio I could scan my radio presets with the up and down arrows on my steering wheel. Well this radio doesn't do that. Once you hit either of the arrows on the steering wheel the radio will jump to the next station . For instance. If my presets are 97.1,97.5, and 102.1. The stock radio will hit each preset. This radio will do this 97.1,97.2,97.3 and so forth. I'm still searching for a solution for this.

Here is a thread I started a couple years back... On the last page are some pics of my setup. I'm pleased to tell you I have been totally pleased with the performance of the unit. (even with the mune button) It has worked flawlessly, through a couple of Alberta winters, -65 Deg C and a few summers 45 deg (hotter in the closed car) Plus. On couple of really cold days, the LCD screen froze and went weird, but after the interior warmed a little, it comes right back.

Would I buy another? Big yes. The CAN Bus for steering wheel controls works just as well as the Org. HU. and the faster processor boots quicker than my buddies factory Escalade one.
