BUYER'S GUIDE: SRT-4 VS MSP.

It was very impressive of what Mazdaspeed did in the Lemans...and we all know what happened to the 787B after that.

I know may on here have experienced problems but I must say that I've been problem free on my speed since September. Been to the dealer once for a reflash and the head unit poped out once. This is my daily driver and I could care less about crazy hp and torque #s...I want something that handels nice, drivable and looks good. My goal is to be in the low 14s and I would be happy driving a 4 dr turbo econobox that turns heads and runs 14s.

I was talkgin to BlackMajik becasue a fellow MSPeeder was looking to sell his speed cuz of financial reasons. The MSP did have a crappy resale value but the SRT-4 (to our suprise) has a slightly worse resale value. So maybe you can pick up a 03 or 04 SRT-4 for a decent price. I dont know why.

howdy. i have a lot of friends with SRT-4's and im active within the srt community, but i also am in love with the MSP and im thinking of buying one myself. but i just wanted to clear some things up about the srt-4

2004 Dodge SRT-4 Stock
people have been dynoing completely stock at 230whp 255 lb/ft tq
i've seen srt's run 13.5sec qtr mile bone stock with a good driver
there are a couple of 500whp srt-4s now
oh and people have been doing 0-60's at 5.6 seconds
the 2004 srt-4 DOES have LSD
HUGE aftermarket and people have been pulling 400whp out of thier stock turbo before upgrading; they push 13psi stock, and i know a guy whos pushing 21psi out of his upgraded turbo and hes hitting 350whp

if anyones around the philly/KoP/norristown area and wants to meet up and check out soem srt-4's let me know, cause i really want to check out the MSP

thanks for listening

I second that notion..I will wait until after warranty to do the big boy boost on the MSP..I will just need to drive the RX7 more this summer, once its done and I finished paying for the plethora of stuff I bought. I should see 120+ traps speeds this summer in street trim!! (stash)(nana)

wow add 15hp and increase your 1/4 time by over a second? negative ghost rider. 13.8-13.9 with a kick ass driver is more like it. Every single 2k4 srt i've heard of being "bone stock" and running below 13.8's comes back and says "oh yeah i forgot about my cat back" or "besides my K+N, bov, and downpipe im stock!". 13.5 stock is touching in the 3rd gen rx7 and supra range and I can guarantee you a stock 3rd gen rx7 will send a stock 2k4 srt4 home crying.

then they have pretty much nothing stock on that car.... which raises the question why would you want a car that looks like a vw beatle transformer

well considering the 0-60 time stock on a 2k4 is 5.7 that's not too hard to believe

if he can get 400whp out of a stock turbo why would he upgrade to only get 350whp at 21psi?

i think you mean well but get a few facts straightened out.... think you might be mixed up a wee bit.

my bad, i meant 350 on the stock turbo, and i know a guy whos upgraded his and is running close to 400 but he hasnt properly tuned it yet, and for some reason hes pisses, apparently he should be getting much higher numbers but hes not having much luck. question on the MSP, how come they run such low boost? do they have really weak internals or is does it have really low compression?

oh and Pkay, the 04s have 230hp, 15hp gain over the 03's since they have the Mopar Stage 1 injectors stock.

the srt-4 has to be faster because you wouldnt want anyone to see you driving it. the msp on the other hand is an eye catcher.

I know the 500 SRT-4 was amazing but I still dont know why you would want to be that fast in a FWD car. I know I would be scared driving a 500hp FWD car on a neon Chasis or any other FWD platform. Yeah it was on stock internals but it also had several upgrades including a new gt30/40 dual ball bearing turbo from turbochargers.com...plus the engine was designed for FI all 2.4L of it. I have alot of SRT-4 buddies but if I have to choose between the 2 again...I'll probally go for the speed again. Just because I get alot more attention in the speed...and Im not a street or drag racer. I recently went to Drift Day in Tampa with a bunch of 240s with SR20DET swaps...kept up with them the whole way from Orlando to Tampa. and they love the BPV (turkey) on the MSP. They want to try to make their 240s sound like that. LOL Keep in mind I havent had any problems with my car...thats why I love it. Not even the minor headache everyone talks about. One of the 240s took on a SRT-4 with stage 1 and it was head on before the 240 (S13) pulled away.

Bottom line is, if you plan on doing extensive moding and want a fast car go with the SRT-4. Hell, when stage 3 comes out you'll probally have a low 13 sec car under warrenty. If your into nice rides and want a attention getter...get the MSP. Moding the MSP isnt hard, just have to have some $$$. Keep in mind we're limited production and most dont have the money to invest in our car. So thats why you havent heard anything crazy from this board like a 300hp MSP...well that should change shortly (Azn6er) ;). Plus one of the most heavily modified MSPeeder isnt even on this board. Did anyone read sport compact cars SRT-4 suspension upgrade article. Its seems kinda difficult and all that work to pull .90g on the skidpad. You can probally get a MSP for $5-6K less then a 04' SRT-4 which makes it a very good buy. Use the $5-6K and invest in some mods like standalone, FMIC and internals and I think you can get a very good car outta it. Again its all about taste...given you dont but a MSP dud and have all the little headaches everyone talks about. my .02

wha?...my buddy just bought one from Bob Dance Dodge in Orlando. They had a paper signed saying they will warrent any "repitable" parts. but the catch is they have to install it and they decide what is "repitable." I've beent old the Mopar parts are all under warrenty. But if stage 3 comes out...that would be insane if they offer full warrenty with it (IMO).

Didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade but I checked in to that *very* closely a few times when I was sick of the MSP's constant in-the-shopness.

I just cannot make myself get rid of the 'speed. I love it.

who cares about the warranty for the parts. more important question is if the rest of the car is still under warranty with these mopar stages installed by the dealer. i've heard it both ways, so who knows.

wait im confused. I thought t3ase was saying if you put on a mopar kit and your engine blows then your SOL. Meaing if you mod your car you would not be under warrenty. Much like our cars.

Did you not read what I just posted that was directly from Mopar's site? Once you install any Mopar Performance Part on a vehicle, it voids the entire car warranty if used in competition.

maybe u guys dont understand.... ITS A DODGE!!! dodge sucks.... y would anyone think about getting a dodge over a mazda its insane!!!

I hope thats the last time someone uses that comment. That's really a stupidly ignorant post.

And I quote: Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicle and parts warranties are voided if the vehicle or parts are used for competition or if they fail as a result of modification.
