Hey guys im burning oil. it was about a court low after 2,000 miles. The car has 100,600 and its a 02 mazda P5 lol. it has fully synthetic oil in it. the only mod is a cold air intake. and thats it. anyideas??

I used 2 liters in 4000 KM's or 2500 Miles. But then again, I drive it HARD, so it's expected.

What you're burning sounds normal.

Can you smell it or see it or are you just assuming because you're low in oil?

Did this just start happening, or has it been doing it for awhile and did you change anything recently?

Could be any number of things, you might be running really lean and the computer is trying to compensate for it, could have a vacuum leak or a malfunctioning o2 sensor.

There is nothing shown of oil anywhere around that i can see.. but i do drive it hard.. i guess i need to be a little nicer to the car

Replace your oil filler cap.

I was losing all my oil between changes. No smoke, no oil in the coolant, no drips...

I tried a new PCV valve, different oil, compression test and nothing solved it. Then just for a laugh I got a new filler cap. $6 whole dollars and 3 seconds to replace.

I've now driven over 20K and have no noticeable loss of oil between changes.

It could be a seal somewhere. I know for a fact that I am losing oil because I need to replace the oil pan seal, but it does not leak too bad. I also burn a little bit of oil because of my driving (drive). I have 110,000 miles and put in two quarts of 5w-30 synethic Quaker State every 3,000 miles (I usually change it at 3K or wait till 5K depending on situation). I might be doing the same on replacing my oil cap, but purely for comestics.

What the hell?

I dont loose any oil at all between changes, burned or otherwise and i drive it hard.

I use mobile one 5w30 synthetic and a cheap motor master filter. 60k on the car

ho bag,
That is mainly because you have 60K on your motor, where as me and him have over 100K. I probably would burn little to no oil if i replaced that seal, but I just have not gotten around to it since it's so very, very, very little. Just to give you a tip, I did not change the timing belt till 103K miles. I also change the water pump, thermostat, and the hoses.

My oil issues started around 100,000 km, had me completely baffled.

Seriously though, the cap fixed it. Now at 130,000 km and there is actually oil left when I take it in for an oil change.

A lot of us experience some oil burning. Personally, depending on how I drive I can be as low as 1.5-2 qts in 2000 miles. I'm to the point now where I check my oil almost bi-weekly. So far I'm up to about 400 miles on this change with no major consumption. I should look into the oil cap thing though - would give me an excuse to buy a new oil cap :).

i will try the oil cap thing b/c sometimes i see mine leaking oil around it.. hahaha but i drive really hard and will stop doing that..
