Go get a quote from a (preferably recommended) body shop. Just for comparison, I had a similar repair (different car) and it cost me ~$600 (incl. bumper removal, fill/repair and respray of whole bumper, reinstall).
Yes, this bumper is extremely repairable, but there's plenty of body shops that are parts swappers only and will try to convince people that stuff like this shouldn't get fixed. The reason they do that is because they are paid list price by the insurer, but only pay cost for the part. A lot more money to be made by swapping parts. A 3,000 dollar list price headlight typically costs a body shop 1,500. A 600 dollar bumper maybe 300 to 400 cost. Easy money via a mouse click.Who'd replace the bumper with such a cosmetic damage?
It can be easily repaired by any body shop or even by some companies which can do it even on your driveway.
Yeah Mazda has that candy color that is actually a 4 stage paint. Very expensive to do paint work. Black is not too bad but Mazda does have some metallic in this but it's just just base coat/clear coat I believe. If you’re located in New Jersey, I have a guy in Elizabeth & South Amboy. His prices are very reasonable. He has his own shop and does bodywork for all the major dealerships in the area.
otherwise, to get it properly fixed, you need to get the bumper off have them put some Bondo and try to paint match to the existing color of the car. Thankfully, you don’t have red or some of the other colors that are harder to color match.
And whoever mentions replacing the bumper, that’s the stupidest idea ever. The damage is cosmetic only and should only cost a couple hundred dollars at a quality body shop versus the cost of a new rear bumper and paint job.
The fix is simple, takeoff rear bumper. Mask off damage area, bondo, sand, paint, wet sand and clearcoat.
