I can't really thank Ken and Zach at ProtegeGarage enough. They've been very patient with me, and continue to offer killer prices and amazing customer service and technical support. Ken and Zach are always quick to respond and are two sincere and honest guys who truly care. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent on the phone and how many emails and PM's I've sent to the guys. A HUGE thank you goes out to ProtegeGarage.

More info to come. Pictures, products, dyno charts, this is MY buildup thread. :D

hey John, is there a reason why you went with the stage 3 instead of the stage 3 plus?

cost and the torque capacity of the stage 3 is 470tq. The 3+ is 515tq.

I won't quite be up to either of the levels. I think 400whp is the current goal, and anything above 350wtq I'll be happy. I will make both happen before I'm 'done' with the car.

After the motor is done is suspension and then a big brake kit

Aaaaaah I see, makes sense. lemme know how the install goes with the clutch kit, I'm looking to upgrade the clutch to the stage 2 plus. Good luck with the build!

yes sir. My 'clutch' install will be much easier (or so it seems) than yours will, for the motor is already out of the car and the trans is on jackstands. I'll definitely keep this thread informed on the break in process of the motor and the clutch.

arent you lucky :P
(poke)

Smart man doing the bottom end before the upgraded turbo! I can't wait to see the final results. BTW, what are you using to tune?

what are you using to tune?

that is a secret my friend... hopefully i'll have some hella promising results. my tuner swears by what he wants to do. I've got faith.

I'm shooting for a solid 400whp optimistically. I'd like to get 420whp or so, but drive daily on 375whp.

and I blew the stock motor with the upgraded turbo on a misshift - lol.

I was going to build it this summer anyways, the blown motor just pushed me up a few months. Its nice to do EVERYTHING at once. Clutch with the built motor and the balance shaft delete. I had to get the manifold before I did the complete reassembly because without it I would have to go back and drop the massive turbo.... which creates ANOTHER turbo install.

3rd time is a charm. i love these boxes next to me.

Your telling me that for a manifold install youd have to DROP the turbo? What are you talking about?

What do you do for a living man?

too much.

yes. the big turbo won't allow you to get to 3 of the drivers side studs. It has to be rested on the half shaft below after disconnecting the downpipe and inlet from the turbo - and all the oil and coolant lines.

bummer i know. thats why i was so anxious to get a manifold before i put the car back together.

i've got no idea what you're talking about demi (sorry)

some fun pictures. I realized I never really posted this isolated. I threw it in the dishwasher last night to clean off what I could - thats the surface rust you see.

notice the scarring of the piston top where it smacked the head. there is also damage on the center of the piston. its interesting, as to there is no distinct shape of the damage. it must've been chunks of tiny metal which was bouncing around. I dont know.

also, more mail :D

i just hope my bearings and gaskets show up early this week, as well as my oil pan baffle which shipped out this past saturday. the shipping time is cutting it too close for my comfort.
