Building HP after a turbo - veterans only!

Ya, I'm not sure how it is in other places, but here in Utah all the nice cars are owned by a bunch of little b***es stuck on daddy's nuts; evo's, sti's, ms3's & ms6's etc. I figured I'd develop a car that could take them all out and do it the right way. And I don't have any vids, but I've got an album posted on my profile with some pics. Feel free to check it out!

Besides that I'm liking what I hear so far guys and I appreciate the feedback. A few other points of clarification too if you don't mind:

As far as I understand it, it's also pretty vital that I reinforce things like the stock manifold, aka get some headers. My only concern is that I want to keep the car street legal, and removing the stock manifold will remove the initial cat, right? If this is true, any way to avoid this circumstance but still install headers?

On top of that I've also heard many concerns about exhaust kits with the 3. I realize that removing the secondary cat on my vehicle will boost performance, but again I want to keep it street legal and I ABSOLUTELY HATE increased noise. Any recommendations on how to increase performance while still keeping it legal and quiet (like having 3" piping back from the secondary cat, etc).

Everything else aside I REALLY appreciate you guys and your help/enthusiasm. If you could, please also post suggestions and links for aftermarket pistons and rods.

Mahalo!

There is a lot more to it then just the engine if you want to hang with those other autos, and when all is said and done you will have invested much more then it would of cost you to buy one of those autos you said the "rich'" guys have.
Pushing 300whp, it is a matter of time before the stock tranny WILL fail, on the 5spd mtx we lack all the syncros the ms3 has beside missing a gear (1 and 2nd only).

MS3 uses higher grade shafts and hubs.

Billet gears become a must to build our 5spd to with stand that kind of power and to be able to use that power an LSD becomes mandatory.

Then there are the actual engine internals, forged rods and pistons, mandatory arp studs, cometic head gasket, titanum spring retainers, higher duty injectors/ possibly a higher rated fuel pump and you might as well upgrade the cooling system while your at it......oh yeah abd a better, larger diameter exhaust that allows the engine to breath better, And BTW plan on never being legal and good luck trying to sale it later on....not that someone doing all of this would even be bothered to consider resale value

who cares about resale, he goes not have a classic muscle car. Yes the cars he's trying to take down are nicer but i can bet about 80% of those guys cant drive for sh it, so they just throw power which i can also bet that they just get the most expensive stuff and talk. Another thing is i hate how people always assuming getting a factory turboed car is going to better in the long run, when in this case its actually more of a headache, more expensive and not yield desired results as quickly.

Long time no speak... been outta town for awhile. Sorry guys. Anyway, I'm really grateful (and surprised) that there is still so much interest in the thread while I was gone.

I make absolutely no argument that getting a stock vehicle with more hp isn't a wiser choice, or even an easier one. I will probably end up spending more money making my car as fast as the other ones, than I would just buying a faster car outright, when all is said and done. And your ABSOLUTELY correct; someone in my position has no place considering resale value.

But there is something that I insist on, which one cannot find (at least as readily) going out and buying a fast car; self-respect. I cannot count the number of brainless retards I've had roll up on me, revving their engine at me, that don't know S**T about their car! They can't tell you the difference between the block or the manifold, whp vs hp to the crank, the significance of torque vs hp, if their turbo is oil cooled or water cooled, how many rpm's until their max hp or torque, etc.! And all this while daddy is making the car payment. The fact is, you have NO ROOM to talk crap if you're not making the payment, even if you knew everything there was to know about cars. I've committed my car to being above the average a**hole that watched "fast & furious," and decided he was gonna be the next Vin Diesel.

So I completely acknowledge that my chosen path is impractical, even inefficient. But when all is said and done, I did it myself; and that, you can't put a price on. (2thumbs) And that's enough of being on my soap-box...

I continue to be impressed at this community and the advice/support everyone has given. There is always more knowledge to be had, and if anyone else has some of it to share, I'd LOVE to hear it.
