I am staring at my junked block and I don't see a blue oval anywhere on it
. According to everything I have read, the FS-DE engine was designed in Japan, built in Japan and is still built in Japan. In fact, the window sticker I still have shows that all powertrain components were designed and manufactured in Hiroshima. Ford did NOT design or lend to the design of this engine. Keep in mind that the 2.0 liter in our cars was also used in the final 626. Another common misconception is that this engine and the Focus engine are the same or share similarities - they do not have ANYTHING in common.
As for the Mazda6, the four cylinder is a 2.3 liter coded "MZR" designed and built purely by Mazda. The six cylinder is a 3.0 liter Duratec designed by Ford. The heads and internals were removed and replaced by Mazda engineered parts, most notably the head and the addition of variable valve timing.
