2010 Mazda 3
I was on my way home on the highway today from work and decided to do a little spirited pull. So, I dropped her into 4th and just pressed the gas and it was as if the fuel and air just cut off. Almost like the feeling you feel when the car stalls while moving. But it never stalled or anything.

I put it immediately back into 5th and kept cruising at 100km/h but every now and again when i let off the gas it felt like the car was hiccuping. It was the same when i pressed the gas again.

There was no CEL illuminating, no other lights, this is the 2nd time this happened. After about 5 mins it stopped cause i gotoff the hwy and it never hesitated after.

Has anyone else had this problem?? And found out what it was.

Thanks

Bump, it happend again tonight. Only hiccuped 2 times and that was the end of it. It almost feels as though the trans locks up for a half second. Almost like a jerking sensation.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My buddy's and my 1st thought was bad gas

hiccups

Does your 3 a 2.5 l engine or the 2.0 and also does the 3 have a Drive by wire gas pedal or is there a cable from the accelerator to the throttle body. I ask because several of us with 09 6's and the 2.5l 4 cyl w/manuals are having "hiccups" usually under light throttle or as you gently start to accerlate. the pedal is too damm sensitive. They are happening in any gear or speed. I had the ECU reflashed but that did not work and another guy had his pedal replaced but still not fixed.

It's the 2.0L 5 speed. it really worried me, only mine was under hard accelleration. It's a drive by wire, no cable. And I have the throttle body grounded. I dunno what it is...no CEL

Sean that's the first I've heard of it under hard accleration, did it happen just as you initially applied the gas, or was later in the acceleration.? One thing I've noticed in mine is that if I'm doing 40mph in 4/5th gear and behind a car so I'm just cruising along with very light throttle, sometimes just the slightest wiggle of my toes/foot either on my one or due to bump in road will seem to lead to a hiccup. Not all the time but sometimes and we're talking minor movements, its not like I'm tapping/dancing on the pedal.

Also was it raining/damp out at the time?

At this point Mazda does not have an answer to the 09 6 issue.

It seemed to happen when it is damp out...but it's winter, what do you expect. It happened yesterday when i was getting onto an on ramp and hitting about 4000-4500 rpm b4 changing gears...i was thinking maybe it could be my intake, but i'm sure that would throw a code.

Seems alot like a fuel cut, and feels as if someone just slammed on the brakes for like an 1/8th of a second, as if it jolts you foward

You have that silly injen intake on your car that was made for the previous 3 version. Could be a single random misfire, as you said it is moist out when it is happening. Throw the stocker back on there and see if that eliminates it.

awwwww...no

:P

I like it and if it was the intake it would throw some sort of code.

Why didn't it do it like 5000kms ago when i put it on?

The weather. Thats one of the reasons why many people turn their boost down during the winter. The air is more dense which means your car won't give enough fuel. You are running too lean as a result. Youre from canadaland so your probably walking around with icicles on your balls. Extreme cold /:

Also I don't know how much power an intake in a regular 3 adds but that could also add to the problem.

Maybe you are right. It has only been happening recently when the weather hit -15 C. It's back up to +5 now tho and last night it was +5 as well, with no bucking. I'll just take it easy for the winter (which there isn't much of one)

Get this, We have zero snow here at the end of January and it's actually warm out. (boom01) Thank you global warming

I get it too. Cruzing at low rpm, push accelerator to pass, hessitation and/or hiccups. I live in New Hampshire.

Mine hasn't done it since it warmed up a little. Only when it was -15 C or so is when it fuel cut, or whatever it was.

I would get a OBDII scanner in there and see what the fuel trims are doing when the problem occurs. It might not be enough to trigger a light but it could point to the problem.
