Broken Trans Mount After Recall!!!!!

Rear mount will def keep the engine from sway more as you can see from smoother shifts etc... but You def get more vibration throughout the car which is not good either, bolts will loosen/things will rattle faster.

Ive read on this forum i think 4 guys have broken recalled mounts including this guy.

And if I remember correctly 3/4 guys have upgraded rear mounts.

One guys said hes broken 3 mounts but like i said I think he drives aggresively, which this car should be able to take anyways!

They really should have put really super f'n strong mounts in our car!!! damnit!!!!!
I can't sleep at night now

OK, went to the dealer this morning to get the verdict on the car and this is what they said. Basically they could not figure out why the bolt backed out of the mount so they came to the following possible conclusion. Because I have a stiffer rear engine mount, the other softer mounts (including the trans mount) were under greater stress, possibly causing excess vibrations and causing the bolt to back out even after the recall work was done on the car. It appears that the recall work was done to specs including loctite on the bolt so there is no reason for the bolt to come off. They suggested that I replace the stiffer rear mount and put the stock rear mount back on. The dealer was great and they will not void my warranty. The car should be ready tomorrow and I will post again when I get the full breakdown.

Gooooooooood dealer. Bring them some donuts next time. You are right to do exactly as they say, at least until the start back tracking. You might want to replace the ETS and BOV while you're at it. Why you would want a Mazda rep in when they dealership is handling things so nicely I have no idea. it almost sounds like they are prepping you for the Mazda rep. Kinda like "don't ask, don't tell."

did they loctite the mount when they installed it?

PS - I know PG sells a nice mount for this.

Your saying they have an aftermarket trans mount? I was unaware that there was an aftermarket part for this mount. Link? It was my impression that the whole way the trans mount is designed was a very poor design and that an aftermarket mount could not be made.

I'm waiting for a complete kit before doing anything. IMO, it's better to change all 3 mounts at the same time.

From what I've seen there are two types of failures of the tranny mount. 1st is the bolt itself loosening and backing out causing the tranny to rock violently back and forth till it breaks. The second I've seen (only one so far) is where the actual mount itself (the metal part) failed completely even with the bolt seemingly in place. To me this last one is the worrying one as there's no real way to check that.

I would advise everyone (esp. those with mods) to check their bolt tightness anyway. Mine has held up really well post recall so it's not loosening up in every case.

I also believe some dealers are doing shoddy work and not torquing or replacing the mounts as necessary. And in some cases, just the bolt replacement was not enough. The entire assembly needed to be replaced.

I wonder if the op can post some pics or at least check if was the bolt loosening or the mount itself that caused the failure.

When I went in for my mount they inspected and only tightened it to specification. Should I demand a replacement?

Well if they followed the repair guide thoroughly, then you probably didn't need the new mount and should be fine. However, you should probably check the tightness anyway or have someone check it again.
