I was switching to my summer rubber and when I went to remove the lock nut on the rear wheel it snapped off at the head. I guess there was a crack and rust got in there and caused it to break. The same thing happened to me last year. Anyone else with this problem? Also last year when it happened mazda replaced the lugs with a set ooff the lot, this year they are tellign me that it is not a warranty covered item. Any insight anyone?

happened to me too. haven't called Mazda NA or McGard about it yet, but my svc dept wants $140 to fix it since the wheel lock is rusted onto the stud.

my dealer gave me 4 new ones for free when i did this.

Now i have 4 lugs i switch out for the locks in the winter.

whoa $140! that is ridiculous...last year when this happened to me, the shop that was putting on my winters took the broken lock nut off in a minute or two. They used a hydrolic hammer gun...Today I took it off myself with a hammer and a cold chisel and a grinder...took me about 15 min. I cut a groove into the side of the broken nut, so that I had somewhere for the chisel to catch, then put the chisel in the groove and smashed it. Didnt even mess up the threads, to my delight.

A more difficult task today proved to be removing the other side rear wheel...the lugs came off easily but our rusty hubs have it bound in place...this one I've been smashing at now for 15 min to no avale.

Before you go damaging the studs. try to put a rag in a large end of a tire iron. the Cross bar looking ones. You can hammer the tire iron over the lug with the rag to hold it inplace. You have to hammer it so that it's very snug. But then you can just turn like normal.

What happend to the sticker that came with the locks, it has the replacment # for the

wheel lock. If you dont have it we at America's/Discount Tire can break them off for you,

and we only usually charge like $5 for each one we break off. They should also have

gorilla locks also.
