Broken Dipstick

Hey guys,

I have a general question, on my girlfriend ford focus, the metal tube which the transmission fluid dipstick slides into is broken. The dipstick isn't broken, just the metal tube that it slides into is broken.

The problem is, it's way down in the engine, and inaccessible to be taped etc. I'm wondering if this is a big deal? Her fluid levels are normal, is there much danger for this? I'm assuming it will be an expensive fix, because it looks like a lot of labor will have to go into putting in a new tube.

Thanks for any info!

Josh

As far as I know if there is any sort of pressure from the build up of heat etc it could very well spew trans fluid from the tube, especially if its down low towards the trans.

Is there a lot of pressure in the transmission fluid? Just curious.

I only ask, because for all I know this thing has been broken for quite some time. And I haven't noticed any fluid leakage of any burning etc.
