Brand new cx-5 - what's the first thing you do?

I noticed it is a little noisy on the freeway and apparently they improved the sound levels on the 2016. I like the Bose system enough for now so I'll probably make the sound system one of my last mods

Mazda OEM Retractable Cargo Cover is a must to have.

Received my cargo cover from Amazon yesterday. VERY nice. $161.55 - free delivery. A bit steep - but you can feel and see the quality.

Craig,

That's perfect! Im going to get one and a cargo tray. What do you think about their tray/weather mat deal? Are they decent mats?

Morning Dan,

I got the Cargo Tray from the Dealer, and am very pleased with it. Stops stuff from sliding around, thick but not too thick to be heavy.
It's also got some side pockets to catch any spills. Here's the one like I got.

Also, I'm kind of a over-protection kind of person, belt and suspenders if you will ;-)
so I also purchased the Soft Cargo Cover as well, I liked the fact that it covered the back of
the Back Seats, and also had a fold out, detachable flap, that extends out to cover the back hatch
and bumper area for loading and unloading things that might mar or scratch it. My thoughts were it'll
be nice when we're traveling and can put the back seats down to make a somewhat seamless truck area.
Of course, It's just the Wife and I, so we can drop the seats. Here's the link.

There's a big Thead about all the different mats, there's pluses and minuses, I personally loved
the look of the 3D Maxpider Mats, to me perfect fit and it's the look that I wanted.

Congratulations on the New Car, enjoy it's a pretty special vehicle !!!

I also just purchased a 2016. Had them add the OEM roof rails and cross bars. Then took to ebay to pick up OEM all weather floor mats. They arrived in just under a week from MA to CA and that seemed to be about the best deal I could find.

Cargo cover is probably next but I think I'll try and just get a feel for the car before I make any more upgrades.

I live in the south with lots of bugs so I am putting in a bug screen similar to the one in How To Section. Also put in a dash cam.

Oh I like! Have you put the mats in yet? How do they look/feel? Oregon has wet and muddy winters so I really need to get a set ASAP.

I also put on Painted Body Side Moldings Moldings Trim 2013-2016 from ebay - Sportwing/Dawn. They matched my 2013 Liquid Silver and my 2016 Soul Red perfectly...

Hey DBLXX - you forgot this -

For easy access to your carry weapon while cruising......(peep)

I put them in on Thursday and they feel pretty good to me, but I've also never purchased anything like weather Tech. The driver one doesn't cover the rest pedal so I'm going to look for something to protect the carpet there. I live in San Diego so I'm more concerned with dirt/sand vs. lots of water and snow. They're not real deep but I think they could hold a decent amount of liquid. Maybe I could try that out this weekend.

Naturally the first thing I did was to pair the smartphone (Android device). Dealer offered to do that for me but I said I needed to learn how. I always spend days studying the owner's manual. Had problems getting the remote start sequence figured out. Once I got the vehicle home I removed the dealer badge from the rear hatch. No license plate frames either.

First mod was to replace ALL the interior and exterior incandescent bulbs with LEDs. I went w/VLEDS and don't regret that choice. Mine is on a 3 year lease so no physical mods. Incandescent bulbs will get swapped back in when the lease is up. I really hope the Skyactive diesel is available in the US market by 2018.

After owning it for 16 months, would I chose a CX-5 again? At this point, Yes! Only complaint is the wind noise (always has a whistling sound @ 30mph until the road noise drowns it out).

The only thing I did was buy the plastic floor and cargo mats at the dealer and put them in before I drove off. I later orders the sill plates but the directions seemed to involved when they showed up so I decided to deal with it "soon", that was a year and a half ago. Lol..

I know I am not the normal on the forum, my CX-5 is just basic transportation for me. I have 2 4x4's and a motorcycle to dump money into if I feel like upgrades.

I'll admit I haven't read the manual yet but I pretty much did the exact same thing with the pairing and dealer sanitizing. I spent a few hours today detailing. God only knows what the dealer puts on their cars so I wanted to get it off and put my own stuff on. I put protectant on the plastic trim areas. I hate it with those fade. Looks so bad.

I think I'm with you at least with the interior bulbs.

It has only been a week for me but I love the car. I see a lot of other crossovers on the road and I think it looks way better than other makes. It doesn't have that minivan look and I love the contours on the cx-5. Very very pleased!

Have you been in a 2016? They say they cut down on the wind noise with the 2016. It's not great but it's not terrible. And no whistling sound thank god.

Removed dealer plate surround, installed OEM all-weather mats and cargo tray, then followed-up with Xpel film up front.
