Brakes squeal while driving

Does anyone else have the problem of the brakes squealing while they drive their P5? It stops when I hit the brakes, which leads me to believe that they are sticking. I (reluctantly) brought it to the dealer and they said that they took them apart and cleaned them. Two weeks later they are squealing again. This is why I never take my car to the dealer to be serviced. Anyone fix this problem on their own?

YES, Same Problem.. 2 things, Your pads can me worn out and you need to replace them? On my car the outside pad looked good but the inside pad was worn way down..(thats just the way the calipers ware the pads.. or 2 your pad may be getting jammed.. I took out my pads and saw that one was not free floating, it was to tight so i filed the part that locks into the caliper so it has more movement.. This sounds veru tech, sorry I cant expalin it better..but definitly check your inside pads, theres a wear sensor that rubs on the rotor when it gets low..

I don't understnad whay our brakes suck so much. There's definitely a problem with the calipers sticking. There are so many threads on this forum related to the exact same issue. I replaced my rear pads and discs because of this problem about 4 months ago. The right rears were worn beyond belief, but the lefts were OK.

So a couple of days ago, I start to hear the squeaking again. I took the brakes apart yesterday, and the pads are black again. The caliper was sticky...it's really reluctant to move. There's a definite difference between the right and left as far as resistance to motion, but I can't figure out what could be contributing to this. I've essentially given up on the dealers until Mazda issues something for this, so I'm going to do my share and b**** to corporate.

Question is, can anyone think fo what might be contributing to the sticky caliper? I lubed the slides yesterday and put it back together hoping that my pads will wear thru the bad stuff and get back to normal. We'll see how it goes.

Fix

So I think I've figured this out. I had the caliper off of the car, cleaned the whole thing, re-lubed everything, and it seemed to be working just fine...until I put the new pads into the caliper. The ouside pad holder (don't know technical term for this part of the caliper) fit VERY snugly around the pad, so when the pad was installed, you couldn't move the caliper easily.

I filed away at one of the steps of the pad (middle, vertical step), and the pad fit loosely into the assembly like it should.

My theory is that Mazda had a group of calipers that were machined to the low side of the tolerance (or perhaps under the tolerance), and this is causing the pads to fit so tightly that they can't release from the disc when you take your foot off of the pedal. This causes them to overheat and burn out.

Made this fix at Xmas of last year (2003) and haven't had a problem since.

Hope this helps. Sorry it took me so long to post back.

so can anyone tell me how i can get a mechanic to fix this issue?
will replacing the brake pads alone not help?

i had the same problem, took it to mazda and had then check it out, they said it was a faulty set that was known to squeal, especially when its cold, so they replaced it with a new unit under warranty. but i m in canada, so this might be different in the states.
