2007 MS3 GT Black Mica
Hey guys i need your help. I recently had my brakes replaced by my mechanic. front rotors and pads rear rotors and pads all oem parts. now whenever i hit a bump my rear pads rattle. i odnt know how to fix this. could he have forgotten hardware when he put them back on? when i pull the ebrake up and go over a bump the rattle isnt there. any help, suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks.

btw i have a 2007 ms3

I believe there are 2 different sets of rear pads for the MS3 with different pad fittings..a Search should clarify that. Check that the lug nuts are tight( it may be the rotor that is making noise since the tightened lugs secure it as would a bit of e-brake) and that the caliper bolts(Allen head) under those 2 black caps are tight. Check the 2 caliper holder nuts in case he took the whole assembly off to do the pads (17mm's I believe). My 08 has a wire clip on the outer pad side that holds the pad snug. Confirm that the caliper piston hasn't been "cocked" so it doesn't compress correctly when you hit the brake pedal. Lastly check that there is no need to bleed the rears by bleeding them and looking for air. If the mechanic tried to force the caliper piston in to gain slack for the thicker new pads without rotating them clockwise and he pushed, he has buggered up the E-brake mechanism so the piston will not fully compress with braking...you won't really notice the lack of full rear brakes while driving but the e-brake when pulled will still take up some slack so the pads won't rattle...a slight touch of the brake pedal should make the pad rattle go away over bumps also but w/o braking the pads will be too loose. Not sure what the fix for the last problem is except maybe taking off the caliper and pads and gently applying brake pedal so the piston extends out (not too much so you pop it out of the bore..put a piece of wood in place of the 2 pads to stop the piston short of this) and than push/rotate the piston back in the correct way.

sounds to me like it wasn't reset correctly....try reversing the car and pulling the hand brake to allow the piston to readjust to the pads, othewise check your ebrake adjustment.

i tightened all the bolts on the caliper and caliper bracket, they were all tight. i will take the caliper off and try to reset it. this noise is effin annoying! oh and all the lug nuts are tight as well. thanks for the help guys i will let you know how it turns out.

All good advice.

Just curious as to why you did not take it back to the mechanic who did the install and have him make it right. You should not have to be troubleshooting and fixing this yourself.

Oh, not mentioned in above posts, but did your mechanic forget to put the little wire retaining clips back in place?
