Brake kit

I used R1 rotors and their "PowerStop" pads on my SVT Focus years ago.

The cool thing was the rotors could be ordered custom (zinc coating, drilled, slotted, any combination) and I decided on zinc coated with semi-drilling, no slots. The pads were ceramic and seemed decent. No bed-in coating so it took some miles to mate.

The bad thing was the rotors were obviously Chinese, so definitely get zinc coating or the hub of the rotor will fuse to your rim. They also warped pretty bad in under 3 years (~20,000 miles.) Lug torque was always correct. The Brembo's I put on my MS Protege for 8 years never warped.

The pads are surprisingly good. They were branded "PowerStop" Ceramic and were made in China. The material was dense, gripped in all temperatures and weather conditions, and left very little dust on the rims. However, these could have contributed to the rotors warping because ceramic gets substantially hotter than semi-metallic. Sintered pads do the same type of damage to rotors, though, because they are too abrasive. These pads didn't leave marks in the rotors and were a cream texture with no filings or shiny fragments, so I don't believe they were sintered in any way.

Overall, good experience, but in all honesty, better experience with Brembo rotors and EBC pads (Green Stuff if you can deal with the occasional squeak)

Did you purchase the rotors and pads together as a package or did you buy the rotors and pads separately from another company?
