Brake Caliper Paint

Hey everyone Im new to this thread and thought I would say hello and ask some questions.

First off my car is a 2002 Yellow P5.

Love it to death, especially with warm weather and you have the sunroof open and all windows down! But i really want to spice up my calipers since they dont look at too impressive! So since my car is a nice Sunburst yellow(i think thats the colour) I was wondering what colour to paint my calipers.

As for the type of paint i have not decided on a company, any suggestions?

And finally, my procedure was going to be doing the front and then back in succession. Jacking up the car, removing the wheels, cleaning the caliper, taping off the disc and other essential parts, painting it with a small brush (two coats) and letting it sit for 24 hours before driving.....

Let me know what you think and input in very much appreciated.

Your should really remove the entire caliper assembly to properlly paint them....That's my only suggestion...

i think that your way is the easiest way to do it, just make sure to thoroughly clean them, that brake dust sticks on there!!

and u could prob take off the calipers and then use a high heat engine paint from a spray can which might be smoother

either way is good

if the calipers are really rusty than you should take them off. if they aren't so bad than you don't have to majority leave them on because of the hassle of bleeding. On yellow you can do red, white or yellow. I would do yellow. I have done mine twice, just redid them last summer. I wrote something on my front calipers so mine are red with white writing i than clear coated them. The first time i did them was when the calipers were brand new so the paint adhered very well. It lasted 5 years no winter and I had done 3 coats in 2002. Last year I did 3 coats of white, 2 coats of red and 2 coats of clear, i should have done more clear but i got tired and needed the car. You don't have to wait 24hrs between coats. The key is light coats and dry to touch. The natural heating of the calipers will cure them well. As for products I used VHT (caliper) for the red, Dupli-Color (engine) for the white and "VHT flame proof coating" for the clear. The clear gives a slightly better gloss but the gloss lasts longer and they are easier to clean. I bought all cans from Canadian Tire. I would definitely recommend hitting it with the clear you will like the results.

I'm going with G2. However they won't ship the brake cleaner spray here (to Canada) because they ship via air. I've tried to find someone in Canada that sells G2 but didn't have any luck. You can use any cleaner though and it won't affect the warranty.

Personally, I like the color to offset the car. Yellow car, yellow caliper can look goofy - like you were trying to make them match, but the shades are off a bit. Just looks cheap, IMO.

If it were my car, I'd look at black. I have red G2 paint on the calipers of my black mica P5 and it looks good. I did it with 200 miles on the odo, and it's chipped a little. You can tell when they're dirty, even with red, so black would look better day-in day-out.

Light coats are the key. I used a brush and didn't mask anything off. Just took my time.

I have heard good things about G2 also. I used FoliaTec and it comes with everything you need (minus brushes of course).

I sprayed and scrubbed the calipers twice with the cleaner and then mixed the hardening agent with the paint. Painted them roughly a year ago (no clear) and they still look like I just painted them. IIRC I put three coats on each caliper and could have done four. I painted them in the morning and waited until early evening to mount the tires. They say to wait 24hrs before driving, I waited about 21-22.

If you don't remove the calipers, remember to tape everything off good.

I went back and forth on whether or not to paint or powder coat my MSP brake calipers. I think I'm just going to paint them- but since I will have them off the car, I will REALLY clean them up good and take my time painting them.

I've used the Dupi-color in the past, but it looks crappy now. I think I'm going to give the G2 a shot now.

And I don't think you can go wrong with red calipers. That looks good on just about everything.

You can get a Caliper Paint kit from dupli color in blue, silver, black, red, and maybe more colors. It comes with everything you need (cleaner, brush, paint) You don't have to remove the setup at all. It's really easy and if you take your time and apply 3-4 coats, it'll look really nice.

mmm. lellow.
