Alright, I mean bra for our p5s, who is got them?

I hate seeing chips on my p5, and am thinking about getting a bra for long trips. The magnetic bra on protege5online looks interesting and easy to put on and take off, but I think a conventional bra will offer more protection.

Any thoughts?

The conventional bra will cover much more area. I dont have one yet, but god, I need one. As mentioned in other threads, our paint is crap.

mag.bra

well i have had my bra for about 4 monthes, and well i guesi can say that i havn't seen anymore chips, besides the bottom of my bumper and near my foglights. but i tell u one thing since it takes the form of the hood it makes the car look real nice. ppl around my area always ask me where i got it, they want it for their cars tooooooo. hope this helps to decide.

I have the MP3, but the magnetic bra is very nice. Only good on the hood, but it looks great, forms perfectly to the hood, and you get a lot of questions about it. Very nice setup.

I have a Lexanlike bug deflector and living here up North it's plenty sufficient, and you can't have the bra on during winter.

Yes I do get chips, but my P5 is red and the bra also protects the paint from fading, so the nose ends up a different color eventually... Also, dust gets under the bra and the combination of dust and bra acts like sandpaper if you don't clean it often enough :'(

3M and some other manufacturer makes a clear coating that you stick to the hood of your car. It is barely noticeable, and it is supposed to work great. A lot of Subie people have it on their cars. Hope this helps;)

I have a conventional Bra, I only use it for long trips.....the reason being, I don't think they are very good for everyday driving....sure they protect your hood AND the front bumper....however....lots of SMALL stuff, dirt, sand, and the like enter INTO and UNDER the bra through the holes for the fog lights....and unless you are going to take it off and clean under there REALLY good a LOT....its going to act like sand paper on the lower part of the front end....and then your paint will be crap from that.

but currently.....its about the only protection for the front bumper area.

I hav ea magnetic bra./... it fits nice, works great and super easy to install....

For $35 you can't go wrong...

I almost bought the 3M transparent clear-bra pieces, but for the entire equivalent of the regular bra it was over $200. I think it's worth it, but I didn't have the cash at the time. If you can afford it, have the clear-bra put on and pay for installation if you are at all hesitant about doing it yourself. They are beautiful when done right, and very helpful. Ran into a guy with an early 80s Porsche that had it done. Very nice.

My dad has a bimmer (that's BMW) bike. You can spray-on this stuff (like the 3m) that dries in an invisible film. When you get a scratch, you peel off the film on that panel (bumper, door, etc). You'll find that only the film gets scratched, not the paint. My dad's put 17k on his bike in about 8 months (dont ask), and just peels and reapplies after every road trip. Unfortunately, it's not something you can do at home.

I got the conventional style

I like it alot, except for the cost.

But I realized something, I was thinking about getting the AutoExe lip, which would mean the bra wouldn't fit properly anymore.

When that time comes around, I'll probably sell that bra. I only used it one summer season, but since it used, I know I'll sell it for less than what my dealer charged me. Infact, I'm not even using it right now, kinda waste of my money. :(

If anybody think they interested in waiting for one, let me know and I can email ya when I no longer think I need it.

It's the bugshield all the way for me. None of the issues a bra has (water damage, sandblasted paint, etc.) and it really is protecting the leading edge of the hood, which does take a beating.

Plus, I really do like the looks of it! (and the foglight mod - hehe)

Wow, cool! Why can't you do it at home?

I've got the magnet bra. Love the fit and look on my black car. Doesn't protect the front facia though, but I am not thrilled with the look of the fabric style bras.

Actually, I am considering having a bra, (that sounds kinda weird) just for long trips, like to seattle, vancouver island, Toronto... I guess a magnetic bra will not protect fog lights nor the bumper, but a mag one is much cheaper and better looking i think. Decisions, decisions...
