bov,what can i do?

snowboy - are you venting to the atmosphere? cause that's the money sound right there :D and i'm not gonna get a 3" turbo back. only catback. with a 3" cat. whenever i find the money, i'll get a 2.5" dp and an adapter flange to bolt up to the cat. i'm still thinking about whether or not to go 2.5" all the way through. i probably will....cause it'll be cheaper. though i don't see why a 3" turbo back will ruin the turbo. you may get boost creep but i don't think you'll ruin the turbo.

A 3" exhaust will overspool the turbo and it will get tired and go to sleep eventually. (And pretty soon too). Just get a 2.5" and if you really want it, a 3" tip.

And it is vented into the atmosphere...its the money shot! (blowjob)

bah! is that what ive been saying? Damn bastards at my forum keep calling the mazdaspeed that and I havent slept since I got in yesterday (so awake since like monday AM)

bah! my brain is putty

but isn't the turbo controlled by the wastegate? so how can the turbo overspool besides the occasional spike?

short answer now cuz Im tired and Ill say something stupid, Ill elaborate when I go to sleep and wake up. The wastegate deals with the pressure aspect.

Short answer: The overspool isnt noticable by a boost gauge... well a sever spike will/might occur but nothing other than that.... You will know when your shaft in the T goes kaput! or breaks a seal

3 inch killing the turbo? hardly. Check the thread CTC Motorsports for more info on our 3 inch turboback from the callaway elbow.

that's run rich and stall :D the maf has already read the incoming air but when the air is released to the atm, the computer will still think it's in the system and add that amount of fuel....too rich.

and yes the stock bov is from an RX-7.

Whoops...I added a step...I thought that it was counting the air, but then it was missing the air on the second pass. It was late...I wasn't thinking. You'd think I'd remember where the re-circ dumps since I installed the injen...duh! :D Thanks for the back-up on the RX-7 info...I think I'll email bailey today and see what they think about using their valve to replace ours. I'd love to go atmo...but everyone else is, so how different would I really be?

EDIT/UPDATE: Emailed AWE because Bailey's Email is overloaded. Hopefully I'll get an answer in a few hours!

Reading responses. I am the 1.8T guy refered to in previous posts. The DV valve stock was a Bosch unit, I would not reccomend it for applications other than stock MSP boost. If you raise boost the diaphram will rupture and cause a turkey, or more accurately "Canada Goose" sound, and you will loose a fair bit of boost. Average 1.8T boost with chip is 14-16 PSi, with a peak of 17-22 PSi depending on chip and mods. Even so, an MSP producing 10 PSi with a CAI would still sound nice. As mentioned, the 1.8T uses a MAF sensor, and is setup to see the recirculated boost pressure, therefore running a BOV usually results in a CEL (check engine light). Personally I find the Forge DV to be plenty loud, I will record a sound clip and post it. There is a stock DV part # 0 280 142 114 which is rated for 20PSi, available at VW/Audi stealers. Check this link for an indepth test of Bosch and Forge valves. http://www.s4biturbo.com/art-dvtests.shtml
I have my old DV kicking around, and I pick up my MSP on Friday so I will try it out soon and post results. If you want to hear a loud hybrid valve look here: http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/595680.phtml

deciding between the greddy or hks

hey fellas. from what i've read it seems that the greddy type-s and hks ssqv can be vented into the air with no problems. i know that you get a louder sound when their vented but is there any type of advantage if it were recirculated? sorry, i'm still trying to learn about this. basically, i'm deciding between the greddy type-s and the hks ssqv and i was wondering what you ppl think is the better of the two. i've heard clips of both and they both sounded pretty sweet.

if i bought one of these 2 bov's, would i have to purchase any additional parts? flange? just wanted some opinions. thanks in advance.
