BOV Question

Hi, I know there are a lot of posts about BOVs in the Forum, but they are all not very clear. Have anybody successfully installed a BOV venting to the atmosphere without having any issues? Thanks again

yes a couple people have. people using the apexi, hks, and greddy type s bovs have all successfully vented to the atmosphere without stalling though you will have to learn how to drive around the stalling problem. you could also tighten the bov a lot but that sorta goes against the idea of a bov in the first place.

thanks for the fast reply, so basically there a stalling problem when going form high RPM to lets say 1K RPMs, and you just have to learn how to deal with this, correct?

Since our cars are build with a Bypass recirculating valve, the MAF gets confused when the air suddenly just dissapears (via atmospheric BOV) and then stalls...

RX Kevin has an HKS and has no problems, PM Him

Thank you, I will try to contact him. The part that does not make sence is that our BPV puts back the extra air into the intake after this MAF sensor, so how can this sensor detect the lack of air in the intake? Thx

That I don't know either man... :( Unfortunately this is my 1st turbo car

Most of the stuff I've learned has been on this board.

SO W/ that in mind: My educated guess is that the MAF can read a pressure vairance in the intake tubbing... when the level drops out, I guess the MAF doesn't like this.

Most Factory turbo cars do not have BOV"s but BPV's due to this.

There has been some explanation why in some other threads, I just am too lazy right now to search! :D (sorry!)

Ok...I thought it worked like that to, but here it is:

The MAF reading sets the ECU's A/F with it's initial reading. When you dump that excess air you make the mix too rich if it's not recirced. It's pretty simple if that's really how it works...I know...it should be harder, right? But this is how it was explained to me...

Thank you for the info, do you know of any way to get around this issue? I mean to be able to vent to the atmosphere without stalling at all, I already sent a message to RX Kevin, but he has not reply yet.

thx

it might take a while to hear back from him. JDM Sam is running an HKS to atmo too. He has his tuned to blow under load only, not at idle/neutral. Either of those guys will have your most solid answer...also spoolin MP3 (terry) has done a lot of turbos for proteges, so he may know as well.

well as some of you know i recirced my greddy type s bov, and still have stalling issues yes i can drive around it, but being thats its recircing i dont understand this. it stalls more with the bov tight than it does loose, but who knows, if someone has successfully installed without any stalling issues wether atmospheric or recirced id love to see your setup so i can redo mine.

I'll be using a different re-circ set-up this weekend...man it's gonna look pretty flash if I can get it to work. I'll keep you informed.

lemme know i have it rigged witht he injen cai looks pretty friggin cool but i still have a stalling issue for some reason evne tho its recirced ;op not as bad, but still one non the less
