yep u want to run recirc. tonnes of threads on this but since we're hear already... you car wants to run recirc cause your ecu is calculating for the extra air that is recirculated. if u go vta then u will run rich and backfire
with the hks in recirc it won't idle like crap or run like crap for that matter, you'll just get frequent backfires while shifting. i ran my hks vta for a week and didn't have any studder issues or any other problems, just backfiring.
