Bought me a 2008 Left-over

next weekend I'll be headed back to the dealer. they offered me an 08.5(i think it's an 08.5 because it has the mazdaspeed pillar thing underneath the passenger side airbag) for $20k for a sport and $21k for a gt with a 10yr/100k miles warranty for free. The sport was listed at $23k and the gt was listed at $24k something. the sport has 133 miles on it, the gt has 36 miles on it. I'm still debating the two, but I'm fine with the sport, but would really like HIDS, and I dont really care for the gt because of the leather which I don't really like. If I decide to get it, then I'll be throwing the ms cai on there right off the back because they have the new one in stock.

personally i would go with the gt here. it has less miles which means less "testing" and all the extras of a gt over the sport including the hid headlights and some other great gizmos that i have come to live with mine. auto stuff ftw. But for only 1k more and less beat on miles than the sport, the gt is the clear winner imo

yeah I know. i'll most likely get it.

Silver...it was a good deal. Are you in the business?
Not personally in "the business", but know quite a few people who work "the business". $19k is not a good deal. Especially when I got my 08.5 GT last April for $23k. A year later and you get an 08 Sport (brand new, has been sitting somewhere for a year) for $19k. People were getting brand new 09's for right around the same price as what I paid when I got my 08.5 Brand New. I don't understand why anyone would pay that much money for a car that has sat for an entire year.

brand new 08 for 19,900 seems like a good deal to me. Whats nice is that he has an 08 that hasnt been driven for a year which means about 13,000(average) miles less than most other 08s.
It sat for a year..how is that good?

Back on topic to the OP... I bought my '09 MS3 Sport in September of '08 with much the same plan as you. I have been modding every car I've owned since the early 90's, and I wanted one that was fast enough & handled well enough out of the box that I could at least avoid the temptation to mod. Without spending $30k or more, the MS3 was the best bet. Sure, the boy racer in me still wants to start bolting on & modding, but there's enough there already that the urge is not overwhelming.

I suppose your urge to mod will depend on what you've been driving and how adamant/persistent your mod bug is. For me, aside from my ~450hp MKIII Supra in the 90's, most of my cars have been <200hp & modded to just over 200hp before hitting that wall where you're just spending too much $/hp to justify continuing.

It's one thing if a car is already fast and there isn't much reason to change the vehicle. It's another thing if there are modifications available that dramatically change the characteristics for the better, more appropriate performance.

The MS3 is one that definitely is fun to mod and justifiably so with such results out of only a few mods.

anything under MSRP sounds like a good deal to me. Haha. Back in 06 when they first came out, dealers were marking them up 3-5k. I stole mine @ MSRP.

Silver,
For a know-it-all you left alot of money on the table...more money for your lendor I guess. Funny thing is that I started this thread just to tell everyone I got a good deal on a great car and you've managed to stir the pot...enjoy the car you over-paid for. I'm damn satisfied with 1400 under invoice on a left-over especially since I now have a used-car payment on a new car. I'll make up for the difference on how I keep the car and by just being damn smart. Give me a shout if you ever wanna meet up...I apparently have alot to learn that I missed in the last 7 years in the biz... u dope!

There are a select few mods that won't de-value the car but it's all about what u want with it. Save all the OEM parts and put them back on when you go to sell it...or remarket it at the local track!

lol @ voided warranty due to mods argument in a thread where the OP states he will not be modding.

+1 she just wanted to say hi to everyone, tell us she didnt plan on modding and that she was very happy with the OTD price. Then everyone comes in telling her what mods to get first and what will void her warranty, one guy even complaining about her price wasin't that good of a deal....(scratch)

anywaaaays, welcome to the forum! glad to hear you enjoy your new speed3. keep us updated on your new love, maybe post some pics. (wiggle)

A 2009 GT MS3 S-Plan's for $22,885. What the hell are you talking about I left a lot of money on the table? I got S-Plan and walked out the door for UNDER INVOICE. My car was brand new, shipped to my dealer and I took delivery less than 30 days from arriving at the dealer's warehouse. (Not to mention, with all weather mats, locking lugs and my first oil change free). There wasn't much money left to even "negotiate down" with. But, I got an 08.5 refresh with all the upgrades.

You, on the other hand, took delivery of a brand new 2008 MS3 Sport in 2009 (the vehicle has sat for an entire year, who knows how many times it was test driven or what have you and 2008 models were not being built anymore prior to Feb 08, all models Feb 08 and present were 08.5 refresh models to 09's, so your car was built even later and sat even longer), and paid $2k less than a brand new 2009 Sport.

You tell me where the logic is there? I'm obviously a lot more ignorant than you, or am I, since I recognize the fact that saving $2k just because the car is a year old is NOT A DEAL. Especially when you could get a 2008 Subaru STI (back late last year) for $4000-$6000 off MSRP!!

If you wanna talk ignorance, you could have waited 6 months and talked a dealer down on a 2009 Sport in a couple months if any are left on the lots while the 2010 MZ3 and soon-to-be MS3's start floating in.

That's all i'm sayin. You saved $2k? Fine, it's not me that has to live with it, that's your benefit. I just think it wasn't "as great" of a deal as you're making it out to be.

Hi guys. I'm new to the forums and want to get a 2008 or 2008.5 MS3. My local dealer has them for 20K, but they have terrible service (wouldn't let me take a test drive, made me wait for a half hour, etc.) and told me if I got the mazdaspeed CAI, they wouldn't honor the warranty. I don't want to deal with these people. Thus, I was wondering if any of you could recommend a dealer that has 2008s or 2008.5s in stock and has decent customer service.
Thanks!

Just got me a 2008 MazdaSpeed 3 Sport in true red...was looking at used but with 08' leftovers available I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to pay a little more to get alot more. With experience in the biz I was able to work a phenominal deal out of them but I wanted to see what the general feelings were on this car? My days of tuning, wheels and bolt-ons are gone...I was aiming at a good factory performance ride. Is everybody pretty much having a good experience? Thanx...Bri.

The only thing I'm dissappointed with is the suspension (to a degree). The dampening ability of the shocks get a bit uneasy when pushed around corners at moderate speed. And the front springs need to be about 10-20% stiffer to reduce the front end float you feel during acceleration and highway speeds. Otherwise this car is perfect from the factory.

I know you said you don't plan to mod, but the MS3 Coilovers are nothing short of fantastic. It is one of the first mods I plan to do in the near future.

Also, consider getting clear film installed on the bumper, hood and side mirrors while the paint is still fresh. First and best "mod" I ever did. :)

where are you located because it could help members help you find a car or location that's better?

I'm located in Madison, WI. The location doesn't really matter to me. I'd be willing to fly cross-country to get one. I think that'd be a pretty sweet road trip. I just want a good deal and a dealer who won't treat me like crap.

I would like to add that the MS3 coilovers come with the Orange warranty, which is a lot different than the warranty associated with other parts like the CAI (green warranty).

Silver,
I would have thought you to be smart enough to realize that incentives play a factor in deals. All I can do is speculate what the incentives were when you purchased and everything else is just hear-say but let me guess...you're prolly gonna say there were no incentives, the dealer personally dropped the car off to your house, you're paying 0% interest and they even gave you choeffer to drive you around everywhere you go. Your know-it-all attitude makes me sick. I just don't see a dealer selling an 08' left-over for 3-4000 under invoice. You also aren't recognizing the fact that your relationship with your dealers sales department can actually mean the difference between getting an issue addressed and fixed and not. I bet the dealer would be more inclined to help a customer who gave them a tough but respectable deal rather than the buyer who called every dealer working numbers over the phone (prolly like you did). Enjoy your perty white 3!
