Bought a 02 Protege5 today

Just wanted to put a short introduction out there. Just picked up the car this morning after tradeing in my 00 Solara SE. The charm of owning a large coupe that couldn't fit anything finally wore off and I was in the market for a wagon. Was down to the WRX and the mazda, Mazda just fill the money side of things better.

Car looks be stock, no signs of mods being removed either. Manual, no options other than ABS as far as I know. Did they come with the remote entry key fob standard? Mine is missing that, will try and sort that out in the next few months.

Past car history was a 90 Dodge Daytona Shelby and a 90 VW Corrado G60, so it's nice to be back in a "swift" car again.

p5 looks good! welcome to the forums....i sometimes wish i would have gotten white instead of red...

yes, as far as i know, all p5s came with remote keyless entry...you can buy the fobs off eBay for a decent price and have them programmed, although i've never done it personally so i don't know how well that works

welcome again! this is a great place to get info and just have good interesting conversations....but before you ask a question, do a quick search first....it'll save you a lot of hassle in the future. members don't like it if someone asks a question that's been asked and answered hundreds of times before....just giving you a heads up!

yes they did. i can tell you how to program your keyless once you get it, i just did mine last week after my battery died.

All cars are slow to me...

Anyways, I owned a few quick cars and all they ever did was break on me. I've grown out of having to own a fast car and look more for a sporty usefull/reliable car now. The 135hp feels more than sufficent for the size of the car, no engine mods planned for me. I always got the feeling the Protege5 was more about corners. Feels like a gokart compared to my Solara (which was 140hp with a bunch more weight). Slow cars keep me out of trouble.

Congrat on the new MP5. Try this thread for programming a remote. I just bought an extra remote on ebay for 10 bucks shipped. You should be able to find it pretty easily. Enjoy!

we've had our p5 for almost 1yr w 15k on her......

Oh no, you're stalking me! Funny how small the internet can be some times. Which color is yours? I just taught the girlfriend to drive manual on it last night. What a trooper, she only stalled it once. And after 20 mins of driving around a parking lot, she was able to drive the 20 miles home on backroads and highways with out a problem.

we bought a silver one. auto. didn't feel like messing w/ a stick , since at the time we had the miata.sold now

we just traded a kid my OE speakers and $30 for Alpine type R speakers (4) and a stubby antenna. we've got a kenwood sirius radio in there. painted the calipers red. and it came w/ that factory sub. no roof rack. tint.

don't think we'll be doing any more mods.

we might upgrade the bulbs to the sliverstars

Finally sold the miata? I had PMed you about buying it, but we are alittle too far apart for it to be realistic. I'm just leaving this thing stock, burnt enough money on bike mods as it is. I have a sub box from my Corrado and a nice Eclipse head unit I may put in....which will make me want to replace the stock speakers. But I'll worry about that later.

Yeah, I guess that would make me the stalker....
