curious if any of you guy's or gal's have or know someone with a bose 3-2-1 home theater system?
i have only heard them in a store on display(on a cheap tv), and the volume didnt go up that high. and the demo garbage that was playing wasnt anything that would demonstrate potential. i was still impressed, just hoping some of you might have some input?
thanks brian

I am not an audio expert by a long shot, but I have never read a good review of Bose speakers from anyone. Most audiophiles think bose = overpriced crap as far as I know. So I tend to stay away from them.

Someone more knowledgeable may disagree, however.

Eh, Bose is OK. I'm not gonna say they sound like s*** or anything, I think their decent...but there is MUCH better out there, especially for the money. The 3-2-1 system sounds great when your standing a foot from each speaker right in front of the TV, like most displays at Best Buy's and such. However, I'm gonna say that it won't sound anything like that once you actually have the speakers hooked up and placed in your house. My .02

i sell it. it's a great system for the size. i still prefer a traditional surround sound (center 2 front 2 rear and possibly rear center) but if you don't want to take up room, it sounds great and i agree the instore set-ups suck with a 13" display but bose pays for that display. On a side note i guarantee that u cant blow a bose speaker. i plugged them directly into a 110v outlet. the magnets got glowing red but they kept on bumping. Just make sure that you get the series 2... 3-2-1 system series 1 wasn't progressive scan series 2 is progressive scan which is ideal for hd tv's.

honestly they sound ok, but they are overpriced paper cone speakers.. you are better off getting a better tuner, and better tower speakers, and some decent rears.. it will probably cost you around the same as the bose system.

apparently this person has never heard the 301 , 701 or 901 speakers
actually my father has the 201/301's in his bar area matched with a sub, and I can't stand them. He thinks their amazing, and I think they are all mid range, no really good clear highs, and s*** bass.

I've never been a fan of Bose.

im curious what bose sub he has...they never sell them seperately

also i don't own any bose speakers so it's not like i love them. I own the jbl s36 rears the jbl s412 towers and the s-center matched with 2 pb12 subs.

the only thing bose has ever made right are 901's..hell you can put the speaker wire in the wall outlet and it won't even blow them..i say that because thats how rep's used to show off their immense power handling..great speakers..but even those, no highs, no lows..all bose..3-2-1 I would steer clear of..Hell you can get a sony HTIB and it will serve a far better purpose and you'll save money..You could even go with say HK or onkyo amp, pick up a Polk or Infinity speaker package and it'll be even better...Of course this becomes an addiction.

i already have a perty good system for our main living room, i pieced it together(sounds awsome).
now we are making our bonus room a theater like room, i liked the few wires part of it, that why i was asking you guy's for info. i think you talked me out of them. so now i'll ask another question. for anybody with smarts in this area who has time to show me an ideal set up for under a grand i would be greatfull.
thanks again

he has bose 201/301's but his sub is a yamaha I beleive. Either that or paradigm. He has two in the house and I can't remember which one is in the room with the Bose.

Regardless, that sub is the only thing that saves those pathetic little speakers.

my point exactly the "little cubes" r pathetic but their 3 way speakers are much better hence the 901 series4(built in 8" powered subs in each tower)

once again im not a big fan of bose just stating the facts about them

I recommend staying away from Bose. I went into a Bose store just to mess around, some dude came up to me and asked if I needed help or had any questions. I said
"yeah.....I was looking at this flagship set for $2999..."
"yes, this is the top of the line Bose"
"Before I spend $3000 on a set of speakers, could you tell me the frequency response of these speakers and that subwoofer thing?"
"I'm sorry but Bose doesnt publish those"

Sounds like they have something to hide, something terrible. Try looking at the user's manuals on any Bose product, if you look under "specifications" expecting to find frequency response, impedance and such (all the important stuff), you wont find any. All you'll find are useless facts like "length width and height". Nothing an audiophile would want to know. Danger! Stay away!

some money-saving reading you should do:

bose has never been rated on their frequency response. just look at there early 80's manuals. u can't rate a direct reflect.(sound imaging)

It's gonna be tight (under $1K) if you go buy each component separately. But it can still be done and I would think it would still outperform the BLOSE.

For receivers, there are HK, Yamaha, Marantz. Should be able to get a decent one for less than $400. Check out the features that it has, especially the types of inputs it takes. Optical/Coaxial/Component/S-video... find one that suits your needs

For front speakers, there's a VERY large price range, but for this budget, I think JBL floorstanders should be okay for the price.

For the center, you could get the Infinity Entra Center Two. Quite a bang for the buck.

For speakers, some JBL bookshelf speakers would do. You could also try some bi-polar (bring in the jokes :D ) speakers. They will give you a more diffused surround effect.

And don't forget the cables and speaker wires. These are not cheap as well :)

Oops, ran out of money for the subwoofer (Velodyne (thumb)). But you can add this in later. This is the beauty of a component setup :)
