I'm going against the impossible and doing it. I've done the research and know it's best way to go. FInally got a great mechanic to help ( because I don't have all the tools).

SO here's my list of things I need!! It's a small list~

-FOrged rods and pistons (custom)
- ported head, gasket matched
- thumper kit wiht Gt 35R or GT30/40
- Bored intake manifold or switch (don't know yet still researching)
- bored throttle body
- 255lhp fuel pump
- A'pexi Power FC ecu ( i've seen it work wonders)
- fuel rail
- SARD fuel pressure regulator
- TUbular exhaust manifold (race spec)
- 550cc to 720cc primary injectors, 1,200cc secondary ( got off this months issue of superstreet)

- same side intercooler (easier for mounting but willing to go with standard)
- HKS surge tank
- 30mm or 40mm wastegate
- sport radiator
- stage 2 clutch
- brake booster
- springs/coilovers with 20.5 sway bar

parts installed (this is sad);
-brembo drillled slotted rotors........ um yeah woo hoo
-cel/mil eliminator
-flashed ecu

The only positive is that I have no expenses so I can spend nearly all my money on this car. I have yet to decideady yet wether to do camshaft/gears and pulleys. I don't think it will add much on what's already there on the list. Sigh... On the 15th I'm getting springs, exhaust 2.33", radiator. clutch?? July 1rst I will bore the throttle body and intake manifold, the fuel pump. July 15th should be the brake booster(still considering), fuel pressure regulator. Than the Turbo in september right before a car show.

- A'pexi Power FC ecu ( i've seen it work wonders)
- 550cc to 720cc primary injectors, 1,200cc secondary ( got off this months issue of superstreet)

both these items are items you would upgrade for a 3rd gen mazda RX7.

-On the 15th I'm getting springs, exhaust 2.33"

I would think your going to need a bigger exhaust for that GT30/40

There is no Thumper Kit that fits a 1.6l? Unless you are going with a 2.0 motor. You might as well scrap the 1.6 and go with a 2.0 since the parts are more easily attainable.

What do you mean by...

Your gonna have a hard time tryin to spool that 35R ;), i suggest boostin with

a smaller turbocharger.

-the A'pexi power Fc is still a great unit and someone in my area just installed it. he's pushing 250whp. However he went with alot of custom parts as where as I'm using standard "mass produced parts". The 550 injectors though will keep me nice and juiced with fuel. I've read alot about the 2.25" and the 2.5" exhaust systems posted on here feel very confident in that size piping eventhough there will be a 3" muffler, more or less for looks ( i miss my old one on my honda).

- I know everyone says scrap the 1.6L however I wanted a real project and not a part-a-car. I appreciate the suggestion though. Besides, my goal is to hit 300whp with this car. TO answer avarela86's question about the injector sizes, those are in this month's issue of super street. The one with the green subaru on the cover. THey have a recipe for multiple engines on what components will do what. Some I couldn't understand why though....

- I was still investigating the trans however for the boost I plan to go between 14-16psi. I have another way to get to work so I'm happy with jumping in full throttle. If I need dyno's tuning and suggestions. I really am just going to go searching through ford parts too just to check on things. wikipedia suggests that there is a corralation between my car and the 97-99 escort. So I should get some help there.

I don't want to get a custom tranny but I need a stage2 that fits my car!!!!! arrrgh I love/hate building cars

in short I want a beast~ I'll post pictures up next month when I have my computer running better

IMO 300HP is not a beast, if your goal is 300 the 35r it too much turbo.

Instead use a T3 GT2871R, you should reach your goal easily and still have

a good powerband. Also you are going to be running two sets of large

injectors which is enough fuel for 800+HP, the PowerFC should come have

injectors drivers so you will only need a 650 or 720cc injector.

okay. 1st.

I would suggest running more boost on your setup. Smaller cylinders/combustion chambers are less prone to detonation. 20-25psi would be a more realistic boost pressure for 300-350hp.

I'd also suggest 8.0:1 to 8.5:1 compression, reason being on such a small engine your going to have to stuff as much boost and fuel in it as your octane allows to make some decent power.

A GT35 would be way too large for 300hp, you'd be way under the turbo's effiency range. Even a GT30 is slighty over kill. If you still decide to go with something that size I would strongly suggest going with a dual scroll backhousing (like a GT32 or something similar), which would require a custom dual scroll turbo manifold(of course).

You will NOT need that much fuel. 1200cc injectors alone will support 1000hp. 550 should be more than enough for 400-450hp. your may have to upgrade your ignition to handle the high rpm & boost tho.

by overkill I mean your car will actually be slower for it. it'll be cool to open your hood and show friends, but moving it from a light with another stock protege will be another story.

more info on the use of the power FC...ive used it on my FD 3rd gen but always wish it was an option for the Protege's....plus I know where to get them cheap..lol

Jeremy

you'd most likely be on your own with that one, the Power FC is a pretty hardcore engine management system. proteges seem to stick with microteck, haltek, and the occational mega squirt & AEM.

hardcore engine manggement is what will make that too big a turbo really efficent. Or so I hope. Supa can you get me a power Fc or a can I buy one from you??? I'll pay in advance, I just don't want to pay the list price. Does it come with the commander attachment??

Also what do you think guys think about for doing a forged internals group buy on the 1.6L??

turbo efficiency is mechanical. no engine management can fix that. but a Power FC couldn't hurt either way.

lol @ group buy
