Boost Cut Issue

Hey ya'll,

I have a little issue I wanted to get some feedback on. I've been noticing that my car hsa been doing some weird boost cut around 3,000 on 3rd. I would say I'm applying half throttle. (Im not getting on the car, Im just trying to merge unto the freeway) So around 3,000, the car does a weird boost cut. My current mods is just a CAI and a TP. Temperature outside was around 41degrees. The car didnt throw a CEL.

Last week I took the car in to get an oil changed, and just for curiousity, I checked the oil. So I noticed that on the dipstick, the guys at the shop overfilled the engine with oil and its way past the MAX marker, could this be my problem?

Any other thoughts?

You do need to drain the excess oil. Return it to whoever did this oil change and get them to fill it correctly. Excess oil produces internal friction and is probably causing some issues with an already marginal crankcase ventillation system. But I would question whether what you are experiencing is "boost cut."

Do you have a boost gauge? What is it showing when this is happening? What are your outside (ambient) climate conditions -- altitude, humidity, etc.? I see your temp was 41 degrees. Cool weather can produce some cut issues even with just your CAI and TP. Do you have any oil deposits on the inside of your intake system? (remove your CAI filter or a section of the tube. and check to see if there is any oil on the inside of the tube or if your MAF sensor is contaminated with oil).

Nowaynohow you're getting boost cut at part throttle and certainly not at 3000 rpm.

There are many things that could cause a momentary miss: Fuel pressure dropouts, tps wear, spark plugs gapped too wide, bad gas, etc. Correct your oil issue and go from there.

Is your traction control on? Momentary hit like this can be caused by traction/stability control at work.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I did take the car yesterday, and they drained the oil and brought it down to the acceptable margins. As far as I can tell, that hesitation has completely gone away. I did give my car brisk run and it was back to normal.

From what I can remember, when it did occur, it happened at very low psi. maybe 1 through 5.

I havent been able to take the filter off the CAI because of the weather here, but for what its worth, I did take off the MAF sensor, cleaned it the MAF spray cleaner and looked inside the tube to see/feel any residue, but didnt feel anything. That might change once I look inside the filter.

I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again for the feedback.

If you imagine crank throws hitting liquid oil a zillion times a minute you can see that some hesitation at lower engine speeds might be noticed. Plus the additional oil volume will overpressure the crankcase, which won't help running either. I expected you'd see an answer without any work, glad that it's solved.
