Bogus Charge?

Ok, so I have a wiring kit for my 98 protege and am replacing an alpine deck. I go there, and sign everything, then he tells me that there is a standard $5.00 material fee(this is bestbuy...spose to be free installation). Between the wiring kit and the brand new jvc HU I got there what "materials" should I need? Bogus charge?

Note: I'm going back to pay the charge in 2 hours, quick responses kinda needed.

It's standard? I've heard that, but BestBuy guarentees free installation! What is with that. Nothing in that equation makes sense.

They guarantee free installation labor, not parts or materials. The materials fee is to cover crimp connectors and other miscilanious stuff that it is too much of a pain to individually charge for. This is how they can sell with free labor and still afford to pay for the building, installers, insurance and the 10 million other things that large corporations have to pay for in order to do business. Just remember, There is no such the as a free lunch. That saying always aplies.:)

That's not true. In order to make the HU I bought work all you need to do is take out my old one and plug in the wires for the new one. They are not putting anything into the vehicle because I could have done the install by myself, except I do not have the time to do so.

standard stuff, i work at best buy, thats for material for the installation , if a wires or connectors have to be added that covers it.. its basically a misc. fee.. even i have to pay it to get our installer to putsomething into my car.. not that id let him when i can do it myself..

If you have to pay it then pay it. It's 5 bucks. It is not 50. What is the big deal bro?

It's not about the money billy. But now that I see how this is unavoidable now I don't really have a choice. Even though it's borderline scamfull.

The "wiring kit" you have requires $2 worth of butt connectors dood.

HU --> after market wiring harness --> Factory wire harness

Just Do It... yourself.

It is not a scam. Next time you have to find out if there is any type of fee. If they tell you no and then they say yes after the fact then you can file a complaint or something but you just didn't get all the info man.

P.S. Who the hell is billy?

just complain, get a manager involved. if u get the right manager , u can get them to void it.. trust me customers do it to me all the time they complain until they get a manager , if they get our home theater manager, they can get it for free... if they get my manager, they s*** out of luck... lol

It is borderline because they don't adverstise the fact they charge anything until you buy the product take the time to go to the shop and get someone else to give you a ride while it's being worked on. So your stuck having to pay 5$ because its miniscule.

It is not the end of the world bro. Now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

if they would advertise it, would u have still gotten it.. its marketing that puts all that together, not the store itself. we just follow the rules that corporate makes.. just say something about it, ask the installer what it covers , he wil explain it and everything it covers..

they do advertise it billy

if you'd open your eyes there is usually a "*" after the word free installation. then it says all installs are subject to a $5 materials fee.

They offer NO information about $5 material fee on their website for their free installation.
