Bluetooth streaming audio 'pops', 'hesitates' and 'skips' -- only on my car though!

2010 Mazda 3 i-Touring
I have a Mazda 3 2010 model (i-Touring). When I pair my Verizon iPhone 4 (latest shipping firmware) with it, and stream the music, about every 30 seconds you can hear the music "hesitate", "skip", or "pop" (probably the best way to describe it).

I have narrowed the problem down to my specific car. I used my *same phone* and tested it in my buddy's car, which is the *exact same year and model* -- and didn't hear any problems whatsoever. We also tried his Android phone in my car -- same symptons. But both his Android and my iPhone sound fine in his identical car.

Its not my iPhone or the tracks I'm playing. I tried playing these same tracks using AUX, and no problems at all.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Can "firmware" be updated on my Mazda's headunit?

I'm getting the same thing now with my new android. Didn't do it before with my iphone, but now that I have this new Samsung infuse I've got some issues with the bluetooth syncing, audio hesitation, pairs with the audio side but not the actual phone and I have to end up unpairing them and starting over. I've had to do this 3 times already because of these issues.
