Blue indirect lighting

:
Mazda CX-9 GT
Hi all, just got my 2010 CX-9 GT AWD in black, loaded except for the nav and power liftgate package. I was looking for the blue indirect lighting, and all I can see is a blue LED in the centre of the map light cluster. I don't see any other lighting above the door handles or anywhere else. Am I missing something? How many indirect lighting sources are there, and are they illuminated automatically or manually?

Also, does the ring around the ignition switch light up at all? Mine doesn't appear to do this.

Thanks!

I think there are 3, 1 on each front door near the handle and the center one at the map light cluster as you said.

Mazda got rid of the blue lighting on the footwells and the mirror mounted turn signals on the newer Mazda3's. Mine doesn't have it, but earlier build 2010's have these options. I wonder if they also made mid-2010 changes with the CX9.

My 2008 CX9 GT has blue lighting on the front doors.

We have 5 indirect illuminations , 1 on each of the 4 doors and one in the center of the map light cluster !

08 GT has orange illuminated ring around key area.

Not really necessary with the smartkey plug-in 100% of the time.

My 2010 CX9 GT only has the blue lighting on the map light cluster. I see nothing on the doors. Just picked the car up a week ago.

You can turn on the center ring using the right 'radio cont' knob. Push it until you get to the 'ILLUMEFT'. Twist to 'ON'

Indirect blue lighting

No key, no light. Our Sport has an orange light right above the ignition switch so you can see where to insert it.

Madza did away with the indirect blue interior lighting and the orange light around the ignition switch. This was discontinued on the later 2010 models until now. Those of you that have 2009 CX-9 GT models, can count yourselves lucky. Now there are just your incandescent maps lights and with a tiny pin point blue light before the map cluster. They also did away with the electroluminescent gauges, they now have a grey ring around them and you can only see the blue ring at night. I traded my 2009 CX-9 GT for a 2012 CX-9 GT, what a mistake!! The car feels like it was stripped compared to the 2009. Beware of the new 20" rims, unless you like to drive around with rims that look like "Girl Scout Cookies"! They look like the have hearts in the center. They would go great with "peace stickers" and "free love stickers", they are just plain UGLY!

Sorry, no more blue indirect lighting, no more ignition switch light and no more electroluminescent gauges. They have all been disconcontinued even though dealers are still advertising it. My 2012 CX-9 AWD GT with Tech package and DVD has none of those things. There is a rough grey ring of plastic shoved into the place where the orange ignition ring light should be and the "Electroluminescent gauges were replaced with grey rings instead of the bright blue. You can only see a faint blue ring at night behind the grey. The Mazda website pics are Photoshopped".

Retrofitting the door lights into a 2010+ GT

I did a little digging in the parts catalog. The 2009 parts catalog has the indirect lighting components listed. It all disappears in 2010.

The part number for the light in the front door is L20869974, plus there is a cable with part number TD1767SH0. Looks like about $30 per door for this stuff.

The part number for the light in the rear door is L21869974. There is a cable required, part number is either TD1467SH0A or TD2467SH0A, not sure which yet. This stuff is about $50 per door.

What is still unknown is
1. Is there is a wiring harness in the doors for these cables to plug in to? I guess I will have to remove a door panel or 2 and see if there is a plug in there that is currently unused.
2. Trim pieces. I don't know where exactly these lights attach to the doors and part numbers for any required trim pieces.

Can someone with a 2009 or earlier GT take a picture of their front and rear doors? Please? I'm interested to see where the blue lights are and what the trim pieces look like.

Anything is possible. For the overhead console light, you would need to buy the older part# for the trim, buy the light, figure out the wiring. Same for the door panels, you would have to buy all the parts and figure out how to wire them.

Installing indirect blue lighting - help anyone?

Is it possible to retrofit the 2009 lights to the 2011s?

I too would love to know?? I don't think Mazda changed the circuit board for the interior lights, but we would need a kit and wiring diagram. It is really sad the way they cheapened the car. The 2012 CX-9 GT feels stripped compared to the 2009!
