blowoff valve??

so this is why the 93'-95' twin turbo'd RX-7's come with 1 blow off valve and 1 bypass valve? so your telling me that my friend who's got one should change the factory stuff out and put 2 BOV's in place of it?

oh yeah, and anybody who questiond the HKS SS BOV's and said they leak under boost and idle is leaking brain fluids while breathing. they're a PULL type of valve instead of a PUSH type. no leaking there:cool:

geez, some people will get so technical on your ass. i have a 93 rx7 so i know that one BOV is called a bypass valve, this is because this BOV vents boost from the secondary turbo until transition which depending on throttle is usually 4500rpm. thats why its called a bypass valve but it is in fact a BOV. i also stated that some twin turbo cars require 2 BOV's for proper operation and the rx7 does have 2 and they are required for proper operation so i was correct

technically it is called a bypass valve and it works slightly differently from a typical BOV but it is still a BOV, thats why i referred to the rx7 as having 2 BOV's

Not necessarily either. You may actually see better performance without one. It's there to protect turbos from shaft damage during closed throttle surges back on the compressor wheel. Most stock turbos only have a 300 degree bearing. You can get them with full 360 degree bearings for extra durability and forgoe the BOV. The intercooled Chrysler motors of the 80's didn't have a BOV installed and turbo failures were never a concern.

in the 80's huh

it also puts excessive wear on your throttle body and thats alot of fun when one of those sticks open while your on the highway

no one today would be stupid enough to build a car without one

No you do NOT need a BOV. your are comparing 2 completely different blowoff valves when stating that your eclipses leaked. either the eclipse ones are faulty, im not familiar with them, or you just had a faulty one. from what ive seen the msp BOV is the exact same one that i have on my FD. I've been pushing 15lbs on the stockers which are also plastic without any leaking, sticking or other problems. this is with almost 70K kilometres on them, 10 years and 50% more boost. so no, you do not need to upgrade especially with 7lbs.

any car pushing more than 4lbs needs some sort of intercooler and a BOV, im not familiar with the omni either but its a dodge so u can imagine how theyd skimp on a inch of vacum hose just to be cheap

a hybrid blowoff valve is completely useless, itll still cause the same side effects as an open BOV. your point on varying boost settings is correct though

Ok I'm not saying the Eclipse ones are the same at all. I'm saying the 2nd Gen BOV's are made of plastic LIKE ours our. Maybe they got it right with RX-7's. I dont think they got it right with ours, i think they are different BOV's ( i could be wrong). 2nd gen eclipses put on 1 gen BOV's as an upgrade. They were made by Bosch. Ours are made by Bosch? Hybrid ones are not useless. They do work in recirculating the charge and also give you the sound if you want it. Who said Anything about the HKS SSQV leaking?? That is a VERY good BOV. So is the Racing one.

That way you have a real tight spring in one for the high boost and a loser spring in the lower one for when you are not boosting fully.

Heh, "loser spring"...

If you are not fully boosting you are a loser. :D

It's a fad and not ALWAYS necessary. About the only reason anyone puts them on is to hear the PHHHHHTTTT sound. Throttle body sticking? That's a stretch. It's cheaper for the manufacturers to put a $8 bypass valve than a full circle bearing in the turbo. Next time you watch WRC and you hear the 'chirp' when they shift, find out what kind of BOV they use.....
