So my wife was driving our 04 Mazda 3 2.3 on a long trip when apparently the water pump pulley fell apart. This led to the serp belt falling off, which ultimately led to her driving the car until it would not drive any more due to overheating. The mechanic says the block is more than likely warped, but also thinks the crankshaft broke somehow (he tried to turn the cyliders to top-dead centers by rotating the crankshaft, the crankshaft would turn but nothing else did).
The main question is has anyone else had to replace one of these engines or had this happen?
I am fairly sure the engine is not salvagable either due to the block warping or what ever might have happened to make the crankshaft break, but I am open to suggestions.
