Blowing lots of smoke almost Daily!!

Driving "like a grandma" should yield you more than 21 mpgs. So that would suggest that something is wrong. And keeping a worn out PCV in place is a poor strategy. Spend the $3 and replace it as it serves an important function. The factory PCV hose is attached the PCV in your picture. You are missing a breather hose and replaced it with that lil filter. And if you have not changed the sparkplugs since buying, get 4 of those as well. Or at least pull them all out and read them to see what is going on inside.

I have the same filter, it's a crankcase vent. Your turbo sounds like it's shot, probably why the PO sold it. You can replace the center cartridge or find a good used turbo. If your intercooler and pipes are full of oil it's not a matter of fixing it before it 'completely dies' the turbo is already dead.

Check the compressor and turbine for signs of damage while you have it apart - running no filter is NOT good for turbos.

It could also be valve seals - do you notice a puff of smoke when you first start it up?

But most likely, I'd say your turbo seals are shot

Did your dipstick somehow come out of the hole it is suppose to be in? (The dipstick tube, that goes into the hole in the block)

its not valve seals those were checked, the exterior of the turbo looks fine. i basically drove the car from where i bought it an hour away to my autozone and threw filters on it ha. the dipstick follows its normal path.
There is only a significant puff of smoke after being left in gear and not accelerating, like going down my hill in say 4th gear, when left in neutral no smoke is visible to me.

and i agree, likely turbo seals are shot, i need to find a turbo specialist around here, does anyone know what a replacement turbo will cost?

on a normal basis i rarely shift above 3200, the car must be just running rich. what do you all get for mpg??
Where that small filter is was left open by previous owner :/ i just needed to put something over it, what would/should i attach there?
i will look into turbo fix/replacement, try a new pcv, clean out the pipes. (which im not sure why oil is in between fmic and my blow off?) and also look into new spark plugs. NGK?

Driving for economy I can get 31+. Driving with the AC on and not caring about economy I have consistently produced 26 mpgs. That's pushing 6.9 psi of boost.

There was a hose that attaches to the Injen when using it as a CAI, but since you have an SRI the filter that you have is ok,

NGK plugs are the best. I like and use the copper core stock no 4291. Factory gap specs are 0.028-0.031.

yea, the tube is fine for the dipstick. no idea why it reads strange, no big deal though.
i have CAI but i didnt put it in for the winter, ill be putting it in this weekend i believe

Plans as of now are new turbo, clean all pipes, possibly the FMIC, get new sparks, and hope that these fix some problems.. we'll see :/

yea ill get to that too. any ideas on price for replacement turbo /turbine?

Its stock is garrett t25 ball bearing turbo right? i heard the ball bearing are much harder to try to rebuild with the rebuild kit... has anyone had any experience with the rebuild kits for t25? Thanks

oh, alright. ive been asking around at local auto part stores and most dont even bring up any replacements. should i go with a compatible model? Im pulling the whole thing apart tomorrow and seeing if its even the stock turbo.i dont see Garrett on it so far, so im assuming the guy before me either blew it or sold it and replaced it with a cheaper one :/

I was told that these can work with my setup
ATP gt25r $707
ATP gt28r $720
Godspeed t28 turbo $450

im debating since the turbo still works, its just blowing a ton of oil/smoke, if i should clean it up and trade her in and get the most of out her. I love the car to death, so id love to keep it running forever haha. i dont mind dropping money into her as long as the turbo will solve the smoking and burning oil problems. which im guessing it will. i just hope i get a break for a while after that hah.

garrett t25 replacement prices i found were 1600$ or 1200$ so thats why i looked towards the alternatives

Ive been looking into aftermarket ones, because i simply cannot afford this. do you have any suggestions on an aftermarket turbo that can work just fine on the current set up? Id love to keep it stock, but now i see how much the idiot before me messed up this car could blow up a week after i spend 1300 on a turbo...
thanks

The only alternative is to scour the used markatplace and find a used turbo like I did. I bought a gt28rs for 600 and also a factory turbo for 250. I am sure you will be able to find one. If not you will have to buy new which will be $1000+. GL!

thanks hah.
since its likely the seals. it doesnt seem to have shaft play, i think its just too much oil going thru the seals. can i try one of the kits that replaces seals and bearings or is that pointless? just keep putting oil into the car?

ya if i were you i would just keep an eye on the oil. I dont think it would cause any problems. You could also check over your oil cooler line and see if its leaking.

alright thanks man.
so we pulled the fuel rail off and replaced all of the o rings. they had broken rings, and only one per injector. so i put one on top and bottom of each. also there was a green sticky liquid running down the fuel rail. didnt smell like fuel though :/ but i think this should help my fuel economy problem a little bit
