Billet Aluminum Shift Knobs

Anyone interested if I can make them at a good price? I'll design them any way you like and will do runs of 10. Let me know what you want and I'll make it happen! They will be full CNC'ed parts made just for the Mazda properly threaded and the right length to match on exactly (will need a beta tester who can provide me with the measurements i'll need.

They will have a good weight to them and I'll drill them such that they'll lower the overall height of your shifter and thus shorten the throws by a little bit for you.

Thanks guys.

Can I get one for an automatic? or is that too big of a pain in the ass (not sarcasm)?

Maybe something like this...

are these gonna be weighted? I would be in if they are weighted so it'll help us who have short throw shifters out. Something with a finish that saban has a pic of, not shiny. But I will look for another design as I am not to keen on that one

something like these momo sphere's would be nice. also, these will be threaded to fit the sedan/p5/mp3/msp right?

They will be threaded to fit exactly. I hate non-threaded knobs.

As far as weighting... we may or may not do it. The one I made for my lancer a while back had a good weight to it and I was happy with it. We may be able to offer weighting though as an additional option. But for now I will mostly be relying on the weight of the knob itself which should be sufficient.

As far as the auto knobs. I may consider doing that but it will be a hard part to make and cost a lot. The benefit of the manual knobs is that I can have them turned on a CNC lathe and that saves money and time and thus makes them quite a reasonable bit more affordable.

Does anyone know the stock thread pattern by any chance? I'm guessing probably something like M12x1.5??

That's along the lines of what I was thinking... and I'd put a step to it.

Team Voodoo makes great aluminum knobs for Mazdas. I have thier magnum sphere knob in my Protege. Great feel, and the 2" sphere is just about perfect size. I would like to see one similar, but without a "neck" so that I can have some of my shifter exposed. (just a plain sphere iwth a hole in the bottom.)

I should be a good bit cheaper than that. That's a SIMPLE part to make. I can do that by hand on a lathe in about 10 minutes :)

how come you're not looking to make a weighted one. I'm in the market for the Greddy counterweight, but would consider yours due to cost and originality.

Well the counter weight wouldn't be that much of an increase in the weight. But ALSO because of the fact that doing a counterweight insert requires multiple machining processes and can't be done in one shot. That means that the cost will double or triple to make it. You might be surprised at how heavy a T6 6061 solid aluminum knob is. I may also consider doing them out of stainless which will weigh more than most knobs out on the market. So it's not a matter of whether or not you counterweight it that matters but rather what you make it out of and how it is made or drilled. Most of the "other guys" don't do them out of 6061 and they are a lot lighter that way, and then NEED to be counterweighted. So it's all a matter of process. Any idea how many grams/ounces greddy claims? I may be able to give you a weight estimate on mine based on volume/density and you can compare fromt here.

thanks!

Yeah one for automatics would be cool (rockon) especially for the 2002 models we have that ******* gay ass leather knob that stands 2 ft tall. If some how you could make it look like momos and make it fit nicely on the auto I think a lot of people would buy them me included. If you could make it look really slick and have the o/d button relocated somewhere discreetly that would be awsome.

I particularly like the one below. In particular, the etched shift pattern. =) The thread pitch is M10x1.25 for the Protege DX/LX/ES/MSP/P5. The MP3, though, has a different pitch... M8xsomethingorother, I think. If you can make them weigh .85 - 1 pound, that's a nice range. My counterweight knob right now is about .85, and it helps out a good deal with the short shifter on there. =)
