Biking (GENERAL THREAD)

I didnt even realize this thread existed!!! I am currently riding an '02 Kona Caldera. I think that is how old it is...lol. I am still rocking v-brakes and 26" wheels.

I am looking to upgrade soon. Probably a Kona Hei Hei 2-9...

my next bike is definitely a single speed belt drive road bike. just such an amazing concept.

im rockin one of the more expensive racks for my bikes. totally worth the money though

Do you take it off when you're not using it? I had a hitch mount on the blazer and I had to be careful backing out of the driveway to not scrape it. I also couldn't see very well out the back with bikes on.

nah that rack never comes off. sometimes i think of taking it off but i remember i bought this type of rack so i could just leave it on all the time. my roofrack trays i took off when i wasnt using them because i didnt like the windnoise or drop in mpg. i had yakima cobra mounts which were kinda bulky.

for the hitch rack, I just fold it up against the hatch and im all set. car sits pretty high and havnt scraped it yet going in and out of driveways. I did back it in very lightly into a high ass curb at ikea on friday but nothing otherwise. Also when the rack is folded up I can see the very top of it through the back window so i know exactly where it is. then when i gotta get into the hatch just fold it down a tiny bit and the hatch pops right open. great investment.

I keep hearing good things about 29ers... I'm tempted. I figured I'd tear this bike up first.

I test rode one and ride with other people who have them...very nice to have and much faster, too!

Nice bike and hitch rack! I have a Thule roof rack on my speed3...love it! Just don't forget you have a bike on the roof before pulling into the garage.

I'm extremely paranoid that I'm going to forget I have a bike on the roof!!! I would hate myself if I messed up my bike AND my car! :(

More and more riders here in the NE are switching to 29ers. They don't feel as "snappy" as a 26", but handle technical terrain much better. I ride a Niner One Nine and Air Nine. I had a Salsa Dos Niner for almost 2 years and got a lot of good race results on it, but it cracked at the non drive side dropout.

the other day my friend somehow forgot about his bike on the roof and smashed into the garage door since it doesnt open up all the way. bike is fine, tray is slightly bent and the door has looked better...

my car never went into the garage so i never had to worry

^ So, just the one on the lower left is yours? They all look good...ss FTW! I had a roof rack/bike/garage incident...NOT COOL. Since then, I have signs hanging down from the garage door so I can check myself before I wreck myself! LOL

yeah, all are ss/ fg. the top left is my brother's girlfriend's, top right is my brothers, and my brother's trying to sell me the bike in the bottom right that he just built.

i saw on a biking forum one time where when this guy went out for a ride, he put a trashcan and a plywood sign in front of the garage door that said, "Bike on roof idiot"

Nice! I dont think my knee would appreciate ss/fg on the trails around here...next time I head to PHX maybe we can meet up. I usually go for concerts since El Paso kinda blows for that type of thing.

Nice bikes!
I thought about making a reminder sign too.

thanks!

Hey guys I ride both Road and Mtbike, I have been riding for 4years now. I first started in mtbiking and then got into road racing as I became a member of the Penn State cycling club. I currently have a 07 Treck 1000 road bike and 02-03 Giant NRS XTC full suspension MTB.

The worst bike roof rack accident normally happen at Parking Decks/garage. I had one two years ago while a friend of mine and I were heading to a race when my friend drove his SUV into parking deck, we got lucky since my bike got stuck with the clearance warning tube that hangs at the entrance and the only damage was a broken seat and a pinched rear tire on my bike from when the tray got bent and pull out of the rack but the other two bikes on the roof rack did not even had a scratch.

I can probably say that was the worst weekend of my life, started with the wrong foot with the roof rack accident, and next day during my race I had a really bad crash when I took corner to wide crashing into a guard rail, flew over the bars to the other side of the guard rail ( Cutting my bottom leap, broke my two top from teeth one got lost on site the other one got bent backward, and to top it off fractured my right wrist). During the crash the Carbon fiber fork got dented so I had to replace it. The worst part is that this happened only about 3 weeks before the end of the semester and I am right handed.

During our home race a few weeks before the Crash

My helmet after the crash. My team mates putted on to our mascot.
