Big Brakes for CHEAP!

16s minimum for the mz6 brakes, 17 for ms6 brakes.

I believe (don't quote me on this please) the 2.0 mz3 brakes would be a marginal upgrade if anything. the mz3 brakes you'd want are off of the 2.3, which don't come with a 15" wheel. idk if it would clear... but I'm gonna say probably not.

I'm pretty much just assuming here, but it makes sense, i hope.

On Sat. or Sun I will post for sale, a front set of MZ6 brakes off a 2006. It will include: 2 rotors and 2 calipers. Price not determined. I will post the set in Protege for sale section.

My friend has a 2008.5 3, 5 door with 2.3l and 15" alloys, stock. His rotors are way bigger than mine, not sure the actual size. I sold him my old 15" winter steelies and they wouldn't clear, but it was just that particular rim as he bought 15" steelies that fit fine.

I read before, on this forum or the other one, about a guy from Quebec putting 3 brakes F&R on his Proteg but I can't find it again.

I'm gonna see what size my buddies rotors are and if my Milenia wheels will clear.

bigger than P5 rotors.. I guess I'd believe. I guess I stand corrected on the 2.3 brakes being an upgrade (to the MSP) then though. I've got 15" steels on my car now... and there is no more than 1/4" of caliper clearance.

sounds to me like you just want the MSP upgrade.

has anyone run ms3 brakes on their 3rd gen? seems like it would be a lot easier to get the hardware.

really shocked , the people that wanted to do this have not bought my setup yet. I just may be putting them on my P5.

Damian,
Have you figured out the ebrake cable yet? What seems to be involved? I would like to do all four if I could, and resolving the ebrake cable seems like the biggest hurdle.

hans olav,

if you check post #1, it'll tell you which fronts fit which size wheels..

as for the rears, they will bolt up HOWEVER, they will not mate to the ebrake cable. I'm going to attempt to make it work for my lx.

i dont know yet, ..been busy trying to get my ass a job! lol.

however, i can't imagine not being able to fab up some kinda different bracket or something ...it couldn't be THAT much different.

So the jist of all this is that if you want to biggie size your brakes (whether MSP, MZ3, MS3, MZ6, MS6) all you need is matching sets of calipers, rotors and pads. Plug an play.

and none of these "upgrades" will allow for 14" wheels. Which means I cant use my winter steelies, lame.

what size are the front protege rotor disc? anyone know?

That info is posted somewhere in this thread infact the sizes for mz6 and ms6 as well.

Has anyone figured out a bolt on upgrade for the rear yet....with or with the e-brake???
Even if you can't bolt on the mz6/ms6 rears maybe the rear mz3/ms3 ones will work as via option

This is what I want to know...I'm not going to upset the brake bias of the car by just doing the fronts, but all four require the unknown ebrake cable modification...

i plan to do mine as soon as my rotors wear out, which is soon, then just get a brake bias controller.. ill go from their.. this should be my spring time up grade..
mazdaspeeder, i see your in the ville, ill keep you posted on this project if you want to check it out.. later

MSP, and 03-06 MZ6 brakes are the same correct?
the ford probe guys are upgrading to the 07+ MZ6 in the front, and getting the rear Protege5 rear brakes. no complaints from them about the brakes.
