Big Brakes for CHEAP!

Nice pictures, thanks. Do you know if this setup is strictly for 17" or bigger wheels or does 16" also fit?

I assume the MS6 rears also will not fit (?) and why not?

if you use these brakes, you *must* use a 17" wheel. the rears bolt up but the e-brake cable doesn't line up (as stated above)

once again, the stock 11" MSP rear brakes are more than adequate for the car, it's really unnecessary to change them

if you use the mz6 (not ms6) brakes (smaller diameter listed), reportedly you can fit em in a 16....

Thanks for you Info guys. Keep me updated on that brake line please Damian.

Now to start my info search on the MZ6 2.2CD brake system...

"these" brakes being the brakes I used (MS6) and the brakes I've been referring to thoughout my entire activity in this thread (past and present)

reading comprehension much?

also, yes, if you use MZ3 brakes (~11.6") you can run a 16" wheel

I was talking about THESE (multiple) brakes... which are the topic of this thread. My comprehension is fine, self centered much? I was trying to give the complete answer to the question, not just the "no, MS6 brakes will not work" answer. PARDON ME....

sheesh.

I hadn't seen the thread around here so just wanted to give a heads up. The mazda 6 brakes including the MS6 are direct bolt on to our cars.

03-05 Mazda 6 => 11.1" rotors=> Fits no problem with a 16" wheel
06-07 Mazda 6 => 11.8" rotors=> Fits no problem with a 16" wheel
06-07 MazdaSpeed 6 => 12.2" rotors=> Must have a 17" wheel minimum

The mx6 and probe guys have been doing them and the protege calipers and brakes bolt right on meaning that it would be a direct fit over here as well.

I have the 06-07 brakes on my MX-6 and my buddy has the MS6 brakes on his first gen probe.

I honestly feel that for the difference in price and performance the 06-07 set up is where to be. It cost me $350 for both front calipers from Rockauto and You can source the rotors from anywhere. My buddy paid about 700-800 for the ms6 set up. Size wise and for the difference in pad size im happy with my decision.

Delete this if its a repost in here. Thanks mods!

sheesh.

being that the question was directed at me I answered it in context of the brake setup that I put on my car which, surprise, requires the use of a 17" wheel. I realize the topic of the thread includes multiple brake sizes but the topic of the specific question I was answering was regarding the MS6 brakes!

but since you asked so nicely, yes, I forgive you

what I need

So to sort out all the comments....
I have a 2003 MSP with the Racing Hart 17" rims. I want to go from the stock MSP brakes to the Mazdaspeed6 Brakes. I am under the understanding i weill need the following.
MS6 rotors, pads, and calipers. What about the mounting brackets? I'm seeking clarification on the brackets.
thanks,
Tim

You will most likely need to run a spacer/adapter to use the factory MSP wheels with the kit.

who ever does this next can we get pics of all said parts? and was there anymore progress on the rear speed6 brakes? like the e-brake cables? and why exactly wont they match up? just trying to clarify

because the cable, and actuator the cables connect to are a different design. once again (again) the rears stock are fine... upgrading them is pointless.

yes (for the second time) i understand the rears work just fine. im talking about for looks not performance reasons.. you put a larger rotor in the front and leave the back, it would look really funny.

I have a set of front brakes that I will be posting photo of in the next couple days.

according to the rock auto catalog, the rear rotor for the MSP, 2005 MZ6, and 2007 MZ6 are identical. Rock auto doesn't have the right parts for the MS6, so I can't speak to that.

The pictures look like they might work, but those is only pictures ;)

I have the regular protege rear calipers and rotors, so any of those 3 would be the upgrade I need.

it actually doesn't, holy s***

ms6 fronts are 12.6" and stock MSP rears are 11" and are (again!) more than enough for the car

if it's that big of a deal, use the MZ6 11.8" rotors and you'll have a nice balanced "look"

are you seriously going to get miffed at an inch and a half of size differential?

bit too much rice going on here imo

EDIT: i feel i should point out again that i have this setup *on my car* so i can talk all i want about it. lol

So I was getting pretty excited and ready to order the 2007 6 calipers and some KVR rotors and (undecided) pads. I have Brembo rotors now with Goodridge lines and Hawk HPS pads that fade pretty bad after about 20 minutes on track.

THEN I remembered that my track wheels are Milenia 15" alloys! I doubt these will be compatible with the 6 brakes? Anybody know for sure? I also remember reading that the 3 brakes are bigger and a direct bolt on, many 3's come with 15" rims so maybe that's what I'll need.

Fo shizzle. You need at least 16".
