the summer days are appraoching and i am wanting to protect my paint as best as i can since i may not have a garage this summer. what is the best wax to use so that my paint gets optimal protection?? i am currently using NXT but am wanting to try something new...any suggestions will be great! (yippy)

thanks

p.s. i tend to wax almost every month (atleast) will that be enough protection or is there something else i can do to maximize protection?

wow... summertime. I would wax every day if I were you. You wouldn't want the banana to turn brown. ;)

i remember that at sams club outside, there was a nascar dealer or something (had a nas car) they were selling spray on wax. it was really good n really quick to use, just spray on wipe off one time n it was good( i no because i could slide my hood after i used it lol) but after i ran out i could never find that same thing again.... didnt have it anywhere that i looked and they never came back and i also forgot the name.. hoped that help

For optimal protection from UV rays and the elements, you should look into paint sealants (synthetic) instead of waxes. You can top the sealant with a wax if you want, for a glossier look. But sealants can last much longer than a wax, and stand up to much higher temperatures.

Here's a few that I like:
Poorboy's EX-P http://www.poorboysworld.com
Wolfgang High-Gloss sealant http://www.wolfgangcarcare.com
FourStar Ultimate Paint Protection (my fav) http://www.exceldetail.com

You could apply NXT over the sealant, or get some meguiar's #26 Yellow Wax at a local store and use that over the sealant.

hmm awesome.....i was reading it says to wait or park in a garage while waiting for the sealant to "cure/dry" prior to applying the final coat of wax....is this really needed? i dont have a garage...this is why im wanting to do this....hmmm thanks for the info man, will definately be doin this SOON!

Where did you read that?

Yes, I do always allow the sealant to cure for at least 12hrs before applying another layer of sealant or wax. Many people agree that 24hrs is a good standard. You don't have to keep the car in the garage though. You should wash the car before each layer if you're waiting for a day betwen layers. You will have a lot of dust and environmental contaminants on your car after letting the car sit for a long time (12-24hrs). You will want to wash off these products so that you don't seal in a bunch of dust/dirt.
And make sure you use a real car washing soap, not a dish soap or hand soap of any kind. The car wash soaps are wax/sealant-friendly. Dish soaps and hand soaps will strip the wax or sealant off the car. They also dry out rubber seals around the car. So if you don't have any car soap, get some!

I like to park my car in the sun after applying/removing the sealant to aid in the curing process. I prefer to do my detailing outside of the garage anyway.

BTW, most or all of the Poorboy's World products are perfectly safe to use in the sun. They will work just as well in sun or shade, and are still very easy to work with and remove, regardless of the bright sunshine. These products come in handy if you have to do your work in the sun. Most products will become very hard to remove from the paint if you allow the sunlight to contact the product on the paint.

Everything I've heard about the product was that is was not impressive, the product lasts for a few months MAX, was very overpriced, and was difficult to apply and remove.

IMO, this stuff is just as bogus as the Teflon car care products. (Teflon will not bond to a surface unless the surface is heated to 680*F.)

so does the meguiar 3-step system work to protect against the UV rays? or would i need to use a sealant in the middle somewhere. in case you guys are unfamiliar with that system, its a paint cleaner/de-oxidizer, polish, and wax

If you want a higher protection of UV you have to use a sealant. The wax in Meguiar's 3 step is a carnauba. If you want to stay with Megs, NXT is a synthetic polymer wax which you can use. The first two steps are only for paint preparation. Therefore if you want to stick with the 3 step the sealant would go before the 3rd step. However the carnauba will not be needed cause NXT looks amazing without a topping. But if you do make sure you put the carnauba last cause NXT contains cleaners and will remove the carnauba if put afterwards.

If you want to try something new. May I suggest Klasse All in One then Klasse Sealant glaze topped off with P21S Carnauba wax. It will give an amazing shine.

actually, now that i think about it, it wont matter at all in a couple months...right now i park in a parking lot at my apartment, then i sit in the sun all day at work, so im in the sun all day..but starting in june i will be moving into the house we're building, and i will have a garage, and i'm going to be car pooling with my wife since gas is so freaking expensive. so i'll hardly be in the sun at all. that will be good for her car though. thanks.

And so the it begins. :) In our little forum world, leaves budding, flowers blooming, all that s**** matters not, the true sign of spring is waxing debates. Wax on, wax off. :p
