Best short shifter, and CAI for the money!!!

well mates....wat do u think is the best short shifter , and CAI for the MP5 on the market ......let me know wat all u think

zim

Considering there is only ONE CAI for the P5, I would have to go with that one as being the best for the money.. adventon.com has it cheap..

Best short throw for the money is basically your own taste.. do a dearch and there is a pic comparing all the shifters next to each other.. My vote goes to the TWM shifter because of the ball bearings and heat shield spacer, it just seems like they put more time into developing it than the others..

i'm really liking the kartboy one with the shifter bushings and the knob. that gets me a free tee shirt :p

i have the injen intake on our P5. its the only TRUE CAI. the half/ shorties just suck.
oh sorry they suck hot air from the engine bay. we did some heat testing with our max-q and temps were 1-2 degrees over ambient temp with the injen one.

happy Shifting
Tom

i think the best one is the one you search for, and formulate your own opinion on. however, if you must know, im partial to my b&m, though tom provides excellant products (i own his shift bushings, and will soon be ordering his exhaust hangers).

hey, i never got a free shirt!

btw, the kartboy w/ the bushings is the best value (and personally i think it is the best all around)

thanks men!!!

well hey tom could you let me know privately about your shifter and prices etc!!!

and well i dont want to sould like an idiot but do u have to change the shift knob when u get a short shifter?

thanks ZIM

TOM, THERE YOU ARE!!! Everyone has been wondering if you are going to make engine mounts or not for the proteges.

Sorry to threadjack, but I have not been able to find him! On topic, I think the best way to determine which you like is see how low/high they stick out. Then, determine your natural hand position and see which is closest.

Just got the whole Kartboy setup. Shifter, knob, bushings and even the exhaust hangers (stocks are a b**** to get off, christ). I love the difference it makes. You just feel more connected to the car. You feel the gears slipping into place. I guarentee you that any short shifter is gonna do that. As for the intake, I have a AEM SRI. I like the sound alot but decided to upgrade when my hood meet the heavy end of a tree branch. I went with the DGM CF ram air hood with the AEM piping. Haven't gotten it installed yet, in a couple of weeks, but looking forward to it. Then I also have a MS axle back on its way to me from up north. I think the combo is gonna make a new car.

BTW, yes, you get a free T-shirt with the Kartboy combo. Thanks Tom. No, I am no affiliated with Kartboy, just thought it was the best product for me.

hello
you do not have to change the shift knob on our shifters.EXCEPT on the MSP and the MP3. we can make custom shifters for those cars.
please check out the website for all the pricing and shipping details.

and for the motor mounts. were trying to find a place that wont charge us a ton for the tooling. they are fairly complex in the shape. complex+$$$ one quote was over 15K for tooling!!! so it wont happen overnight :(

well we apprecaite all the effort anyway tom, and there isnt a day when I get into my p5 and i dont smile when I go through shifting gettin on the freeway =)

I will be switching to your exhaust hanger bushings also when I get my catback.

as for the comments I have heard about the stock hangers? mine werent hard at all, i drenched em in WD-40 let it sit for 2 minutes and slipped em right off.

yep you need a 12mm threading tool...if you have one great, if you can borrow one great, but if you need to buy one...i bought mine in australia for like $30aud - thats about $20usd ($30cad)

still much cheaper than a new shifter

doesnt what is below the ball point of the shifter matter also in throw reduction and so forth? I meaning a "shorter" shifter that has been cut down will feel like s shorter throw but it is just the top that isnt moving as far, the rest of it still moves around like stock.

Also the bushings are nice cause they take away any give/sway the shifter has in gear.

Exactly...To "significantly" reduce throw, the shifter needs to be longer below the fulcrum...removing the stock extension will reduce throw, but only slightly since nothing is added underneath the joint...

I removed the stock extension mostly for looks, but was still suprised at how much it helped with the throws...It is still long compared to aftermarket "real" SS's, but is a decent improvement over the stock crow bar....

get the kartboy..i have it..its hot butter on my breakfast toast..i have the AEM-SRI..the manual version..i wish i had gotten the INJEN instead..
