Best fmic for MSP?

I would have to say the best FMIC is turbolife as well BUT..it requires removal of the crash bar.
The second (or first safest) is the MAM set-up it's a direct bolt on. But long out of production, and can be found at times used.

turbolife/perrin is generally considered the most efficient and is bordering on oversize. they do require you to remove your crashbar, which is, well not smart. any front end collision and your insurance company finds you removed crash bracing you can kiss your policy and reimbursement check goodbye.

MAM is probably best since it requires just about no cutting, hiboost made a good kit too but it used the CAI hole and theyre not in business anymore either.

Don't use the Perrin / Turbolife. I have the Perrin, and while it's nice and has amazingly short intercooler piping, removing the crash bar IS stupid. I bought mine with it, but if I didn't, I'd run something else. It is a bit oversized as well, but that causes no issue. A quality core is a quality core, As long as the core doesn't leak, it will always be better than the tiny book sized unit we have stock, that heat soaks horribly. Keep the crash bar. Maybe look at that Altered Customs kit. People love paying $$$ for brand names, but is it worth it ?

i have the ION kit...had it for like 4 yrs now. Love it. Fits very well. Minimal cutting.

Although i've been eyeballing the turbolife kit....and it is beautiful...

I'll trade you my Perrin FMIC, for your Ion Kit and crash bar.

Ooooooooooooo......maybe.

But i do like the fact that our cars have a 5 star frontal crash test rating...WITH the crash bar...lol

I have a similar set up---built motor, piggyback, exhaust and etc...Well honestly when i go with a standalone...i'm only gonna boost like 15psi, which my FMIC is gonna be just fine for...Sorry!

It's cool. LMK if you need injectors. 15psi is fun, even on stock snail. No higher though.

I know :) ive accidentally hit 15 a couple times.....WOOOHOOOO!!!
But then again i have broken my transmission BADDD a couple times too...lol

Ya, cause turbolife is a brand name. I think that people like to pay $$$ for quality kits. I ran the Turbolife when i had my MSP and i loved it.

True its not a great idea to remove the crashbar and im not going to debate that. We do what we do.

Altered customs is good, and at a good price. I would class it as a standard Ebay kit.

Have you considered an SMIC replacement. If you are not planning a very big build it might be all you need.

no, perrin is a brand name... the turbolife is identical except for the brand name, but if hondaeat-r put his used perrin for sale today I almost guarantee it would sell for more than a bfn turbolife.

similar, but the turbolife/perrin is a "better" kit due to the shorter routing and the fact that it can support more CFM due to the larger core size.

supposedly JDMJNKY ran a 27x7x3 and claimed you wouldnt have to yank the crash bar, but he trimmed his to keep it mounted a little closer to centered. the altered customs one is a 27x6x3 if i remember correctly, and i think the turbolife is a 27x11.5x3.5.

thats all based strictly on memory, dont quote me on any of it.

Relax, nobody dropped names. I'm saying that any non leaking efficient Intercooler is a huge step up from the stocker...size or location. The crash bar thing is horrible. Insurance has you by the balls, no excuses. Too often people associate expense with quality. There are exceptions, and this is far from "my first rodeo".
