Best Alternative to CX-5

?? They suck, their vehicles generally suck, service fng horror show, they should die

Oh, I didn't say I loved VW. I said I love them for diesel-gate. I think it was absolutely epic how they duped the buggers at the EPA for so long. I'm angry with them for getting caught.

(gah)
Luckily, I didn't buy it for the ground clearance... or the acceleration... or the mileage...or the cargo capacity.... (hump)

Since I can only justify owning one vehicle, it's the perfect compromise, since I need AWD, occl hauling stuff, a city car, a highway cruiser, and a back road toy. Plus it has great electronics and safety features and MRCC and that awesome HUD. And it handles AND rides better than anything like that deserves to.

The CX-5 is by far the best value, and the best driving experience available today, given those parameters.

It's not the best by some measures, but it's surely the best overall, for the money.

Unless any of those other things are more important to you! (rofl2)

It sounds like that's exactly why you bought it, adding in price and safety, as well.

You totally missed my point, uno.

Ground clearance is less than many [if you want more], and more than a wagon [if you want less]. I didn't care either way, so I didn't NOT buy it because of that.
Gas mileage sucks for a vehicle that does 0-60 in the high 8s. I didn't NOT buy it because of that.
It's slow [even tho it doesn't feel slow]. I didn't NOT buy it because of that.
Cargo capacity is about the smallest in its class. I didn't NOT buy it because of that.

Capisce?

So governments, regulators, much of the population at large don't like the word diesel even more than before its almost as scary as idk "gun". But hats off to the scoundrels who got one past the ol epa and almost brought down the company. Screw them..we'd have the cx5 d here as planned if not for that and the ramifications that came after..now you're going to tell me about all the new diesels that have arrived since and I'm going to say how many? When did they apply for certification? Just passenger vehicles..not trucks/vans...they're different.

It’s not the first time a company cheated with diesels. There have been so many other cheats in the auto industry. Cheating on mpg ratings, power ratings, and the list goes on. And this won’t be the last time. I am not saying I love them for it but I’m not going to shun them and if I did I should shun them all which would be way to limiting as everyone probably did something wrong at some point. Also the actual amount of polluting is made to sound much greater than it really is. Those cheaty engines were still way cleaner than stuff from just a decade or so ago. And C02 has environmental consequences too which was lower with diesel.

The EPA needs to just start doing real world testing. Shame on them for being so easily duped is my opinion.

And I do care about the environment.

^^Ok lot of good points there and I admit I wasn't their biggest fan prior to this, and I did take this one a bit personally as I really wanted to see more not less diesel options appear on our shores...fully agreed its more they were too easily duped rather than how impressive it was to pull off.

Coming from the Mazda fan boi as some people think I am, screw you and your diesel, Mazda. I'm a little tired of your coming soon bulls***.
AA coming soon for 3 years now.
Diesel this fall. This winter. This spring. This summer. Well, just soon.
It amazes me that some companies in the 21st century still haven't figured out we want transparency.
We'll get a new Half-life before Mazda delivers AA OR DIESEL.

Chevy has theirs out. I think this one is on Mazda not the government.... kinda same s*** with CarPlay and AA..... I think Mazda needs managers as good as their engineers lol

That costs money. The EPA has never had enough money or staff to do it. And they sure don't have it now.
Trust and [wink, wink we won't] verify.

It seems the consensus here is that the delay is due to [problems?] at Mazda. Entirely possible. And that they have compounded the problem by announcing timetables that they have not been able to keep, and offered no explanations. That's undeniable, judging by the feelings expressed here.

I don't know what's caused the delays. I have no information, can only speculate. But I ask those of you who are so upset with Mazda: WHY, then, are they behaving this way?

Incompetence? Not likely. An incompetent company wouldn't be able to produce what they already have. If you're going to "blame" them for not informing you, you should have an explanation for their behavior. It's not like they're just winging it.

What would that be? Seriously, what would be their motivation, their goal, knowing that they're pissing people off.

The only thing I can come up with is that they just don't know when it will be ready, OR that they really don't know if they still want to introduce it.

What are some other theories?

I think all the recent stuff from Toyota looks over styled. I think they know theyre boring and trying to counter that image. Very much so in their advertising too.

Agreed one extreme to the other.

Saab made a pretty nice wag....errr Sport Combi as they called it. [emoji16]

Sport wagon? Looks like a mini minivan.

It seems like you’re comparing current CUV styling to wagons from several decades ago. SUVs from that time frame, we were not calling them CUV yet, had a similar uniform height. Look at modern wagons and they slope back in most cases. I can also point out some very uniform and body modern S/CUV which tend to be the more utilitarian ones. That just isn’t a characteristic unique to wagons.

considering minivans have always offered an elevated sitting position, they're much closer in looks to CUVs/SUVs than station wagons.
