Beltline Molding Fading or Pitted?

This is the molding on the outside of each door at the base of your glass. I have a 2002.5 Protege 5 and they have become fadded and have pit marks in them.

All of these are being replaced under warranty. Curious if anyone else has noticed this happening to theirs.

i know captainkrm repainted his outter door trim flat black as it was fading, but i've never heard of this or noticed it.

Mine are starting to show these signs. The exact same thing happened to my old Escort also.
