BEGI Turbo

Wshade has one, and has pics and videos. He seems very happy with it, contact him.

I saw the kit today, partially installed on PortCityMP3's car. It looks OK. I wasn't impressed with it. Don't get me wrong, I am sure it is a good kit, but the intercooler was very small and placed in an odd place. The manifold looked good, but it is a log type manifold and spoolin's tubular manifold would kick it's ass. I would love to see BEGI's, Tripoint's, Spoolin's, and the soon to come FIC kits go head to head. I would probably go with Tripoint over BEGI. The have a big front mount intercooler and the only reason people are not buying it is cause of the Aerodyne turbo, which isn't a bad turbo. If you read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, you will see he uses an Aerodyne unit on a Miata in the install section.

If you want my opinion, wait for the FIC kit. It looks really good. Once it is out then make your decision.

BTW, I still don't know the friggin price of the BEGI. SOMEONE TELL ME hehe, so I can add it to the aftermarket guide.

NOTEIn the previous post, change all the FIC's to Mazdaformance. It is the Mazdaformance kit that looks great, not the FIC. The FIC doesn't look that good. Sorry, I got mixed up :)

The price of the BEGI kit right now is $2,900. That is for the first ten kits. After that, Flyin Miata takes over production for an as-of-yet unspecified price.

I have read the book by Corky Bell. That's why I am buying the BEGI kit, because he engineered it and because of the price. I've been talking to him back and forth on the kit for the last month now.

I'm not really looking to build a race car, so this kit, even if it can't match Spoolin's, is fine for me. This is just a daily driver to scoot around town in, and in this case that means just scootin' a little faster. 7 or 8 psi tops is fine for me.

But don't get me wrong, the tubular manifold kicks ass. Just different strokes for different folks.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the BEGI kit use a T3? I remember reading that somewhere. Again, I might be wrong, but in most cases, isn't a T3 more of a top end turbo than 16G. I'm not great at remembering the everyday basic applications.

The BEGI kit does use a Garrett T3. Corky states that he used it because;

The turbo selection process eventually boiled down to the Garrett T03 series. Reasons are: It has the family spread in flow capability to be both smaller than the T28 series, and yet bigger than the lower range of the T04's. Net result: the system can offer turbo sizing from the low speed, super response turbos to the on-track high horsepower racing sizes. Although the T03 series, by history is a turbo antique, Garrett has seen fit in the last few years to make available to the tuners a wide variety of upgraded compressors and turbines that incorporate the newest of high efficiency turbo hardware

So there you have it.

I believe spoolin is using a 16g. It does spool lower than the t3. It's actually my favorite (but that doesn't mean sh*t).
Corky chose the T3 for just the reason he said: wide application possibilities.

For those who are interested, we've got the install pictures up of our FM/BEGI kit. We'll be dynoing the car in the next couple of days and running it hard to see if all the fuel and timing management is good.

What's this FIC kit you speak of? Don't forget about the m2 kit as well.

I don't think a T03 and a T3 are the same thing...anyone know for sure?

So the turbo is in...what are you waiting for...DYNO THAT MOFO!

Our manifolds usually come with t'3's. I also offer it in 16g and are now available with a t3/t4. The garretts will have to utilize an external wastegate though. The t3 is not more of a top end turbo then the 16g. Actually a killer big 16g can support 450+ HP. The t3 tops out in the low 300's. Regardless drivability on both turbos in our cars are virtually identical. I prefer 16g's myself they are tough turbos that handle lots of abuse (but damn expensive) but the beauty of the garrett t3 is the endless combos of compressors and turbines. Mitsu is very limited by that.

I offer the biggest t3 with the SPOOL kit. And they are all balanced and race prepped turbos. Remember BEGI offers a kit and we dont. Our setup is more a race application.

Keith,
Thanks for finding our board and giving us the info! Are you planning on selling the MP3 version as well when the kinks are worked out? As I'm sure you already know, the MP3 has advanced timing to squeeze out an extra 10 horses and Corky had to do some extra work to get it working with the MP3.

Sorry for the late reply. We had our Open House and things got a little busy :)

We'll be selling all the kits that Corky is working on, including the MP3.

We had our P5 on the dyno a couple of days ago, and it made 60% more torque than stock with a factory exhaust. It does need more fuel before we go any further so we should be putting in an auxiliary pump today. We've also got a Thermal exhaust waiting to go on once that's ready to go.

Looks good...How did the car do in the autocross?? Wish i could have gotten the time off to get over there. Darn the luck!

Sorry to say it, but pretty much all the Miatas spanked the P5 pretty hard in the autox. It was a really tight course, and the stock suspension and front weight bias didn't do the Proteg any favours. Besides, Miatas are just really good at autox.

Picture here

I didn't get a chance to drive it on the track, unfortunately.
